Installing the dishwasher: installation and connection instructions. Rules for installing and connecting a dishwasher Installing an Indesit dishwasher

Show content articles

Dishwashers are energy efficient and easy to use, which is why more and more users are choosing them. Installing a new kitchen dishwasher yourself will save you time and money. Despite the presence of detailed instructions in the kit, it is worth understanding all the nuances of the process.

Possible embedding options

Manufacturers produce PMM models with standard parameters:

  • height 815-875 mm;
  • width 598 and 448 mm;
  • depth 550 mm.

The range of dimensions allows for the use of several installation options. The control elements of the devices are located at the end of the door, and the legs can be adjusted in height. For a tight fit, the equipment is equipped with corner fasteners and self-tapping screws.

When installing it yourself, it is important to take into account the parameters of the kitchen unit, the presence of water supply and sewerage communications, as well as a free line with an outlet.

Advice! Install the machine next to the sink, where there is access to the main water supply and drainage units.

Cabinet installation

If there are cabinets more than 45 cm wide next to the sink, you can disguise household appliances. Installing a built-in compact dishwasher in a cabinet will allow you to connect the drainage and water intake pipes to ready-made communications. The work includes:

  • removal of shelves, bottom panel and back wall from the cabinet;
  • vertical adjustment of the PMM body using legs;
  • connecting an extended pipe with a shut-off valve for cold water;
  • laying a drainage pipe into a siphon;
  • organization of an additional outlet;
  • installation of a decorative front panel on the device door.

With front panel on the device door

Important! If necessary, a water seal with a drain pipe is installed.

Installation in a free-standing module

The method is relevant if the furniture set does not have suitable cabinets, but the kitchen area is spacious. Order a separate cabinet for a compact machine and install it next to communications. Connection consists of the following operations:

  • aligning and securing equipment so that it does not move during operation;
  • laying hoses and pipes along the walls for ease of access.
Important! The location of the PMM in a separate module eliminates the difficulty of dismantling if the hose breaks.

Niche installation

The presence in the kitchen set of a special niche for a microwave, oven or compact equipment solves the question of how best to integrate a household dishwasher into a ready-made, assembled kitchen.

Separating the niche from communication networks involves the use of long flexible hoses for supplying water and drains. The front part of the machine is covered with a cover for the facades.

Built into a niche

Important! Compact dishwashers are suitable for a family of 2-3 people.

If embedding is not suitable

In small rooms it is advisable to install free-standing devices. What is the best way to install a small household dishwasher, experts say:

  • place on the table if the dishwasher is no larger than the oven;
  • place in an open module;
  • place under the sink;
  • allocate a small area for narrow models.

Connection to communications is carried out only after installation of the equipment is completed.

Advice! If there is no room for a built-in device, remodel the kitchen unit, move the lines, but be prepared for large financial costs.

Installation procedure for the built-in model

Consistent and correct installation of a new dishwasher is subject to several rules:

  • retreat 5 cm from the back wall to the cabinet or wall surface;
  • determine according to the instructions the supply of the box for installing equipment;
  • check the location of the holes in the decorative door frame from the installation diagrams;
  • consider opening the cabinet door taking into account the side position of the control panel;
  • Level the equipment and adjust the height of the legs.
Important! Fasteners for a specific model are included in the PMM package.

Tools, sources and fittings

The number of tools depends on the type of kitchen unit, the location of communications and the model of the device. Tools you will need:

  • adjustable wrench;
  • screwdrivers - Phillips and flat tip;
  • roulette;
  • pliers;
  • perforator;
  • chisel;
  • pliers;
  • screwdriver

To install a dishwasher yourself, you don’t need many tools. More attention will have to be paid to the quantity and quality of components. The list includes:

  • European-type 16 A sockets with socket boxes;
  • three-core copper cable with a diameter of 2 mm;
  • tee for a water pipe made of metal-plastic;
  • FUM tape;
  • ball valve for water intake hose;
  • difavtomat;
  • vapor barrier material;
  • rubber gaskets;
  • electrical wire;
  • 16 A auto switch;
  • filters;
  • siphon with two outlets for drain pipes;
  • plastic clamps;
Advice! Buy components and select materials before installing equipment, focusing on the finished kitchen plan.

Checking the complete set of PMM

Before you begin installing a compact built-in dishwasher model, you need to check that it is complete. Included with the equipment:

  • fastening brackets that are installed on furniture;
  • heat exchangers;
  • nozzles for spraying water;
  • screw supports that allow you to fix the machine on an uneven surface;
  • two front and one rear legs;
  • screws for adjusting the legs;
  • hoses for water intake and drainage.

The package also includes installation and connection instructions. Despite the similarity of work for appliances of different brands, dishwashers, depending on the model, have nuances that need to be taken into account when connecting.

On-site installation

What is the best way to install a new built-in dishwasher in the right place in the kitchen? Work according to the following algorithm:

  1. Choose a kitchen area so that the length of the hoses increases to 1.5 m. It is possible to increase the hose to 5 m, but the machine will not work properly.
  2. Prepare a niche with a bottom 60 cm wide for standard PMMs and 45 cm wide for narrow ones.
  3. Drill holes on the cabinet wall for laying the water intake and drainage pipes and electrical wiring.
  4. Place the equipment opposite the niche and adjust its legs.
  5. Route the pipes and connect the electrical cord.
  6. Apply vapor barrier film and tapes to the inside of the tabletop.
  7. Install the package.
  8. Attach complete noise protection to the bottom of the device.
  9. Place the PMM in the niche.
  10. Check the correct installation using a level and tape measure.
Important! A dishwasher must not be placed under the hob.

Installation of decorative facades on the assembled dishwasher is carried out using long self-tapping screws. To do this, take the cabinet door and the panel from the drawer, adjust it to the size of the equipment and, in turn, attach it to the PMM sash. For convenience, you can reinstall the fittings.

Connection to sewerage

To connect the device to the drainage system after completely shutting off the water, two methods are used:

  • if there is a free hole in the sewer pipe, it is necessary to install a drain pipe in the outlet collar;
  • connection to the drain through the sink for appliances with a water seal. The insertion occurs using a ¾-inch tee.

Regardless of the type of connection, it is worth installing a shut-off valve and the Aquastop system - this will prevent leaks.

Diagram of connecting the dishwasher to networks

Connection to water supply

There are several options for installing a household dishwasher with a water supply connection yourself. In a simple case, the intake hose is connected directly to the sink faucet. This measure is temporary, since the kitchen faucet is not used during operation.

The second option is more labor-intensive, but effective:

  1. The water in the apartment is shut off.
  2. A branch is installed on the water supply riser - a tee made of plastic or metal with a ball-type corner valve.
  3. The complete water intake hose is connected to the branch.
  4. When using rigid pipes, filters are placed in front of the shut-off valve to prevent clogging.
Advice! If a washing machine, taps and filtration systems are connected to the water supply, it is worth installing a collector. It will reduce the number of taps into the main pipe of the system.

Power connection

In intensive washing mode, the machine consumes about 15 A of current, which, with a minimal protection system, will lead to power failures throughout the entire apartment. For proper electrical installation you need:

  1. Drill the wall for wiring using a hammer drill and a chisel.
  2. Connect a wire with three cores to the electrical panel.
  3. Install the difavtomat.
  4. Connect a copper wire to the difavtomat and stretch it into the kitchen through a strobe with output to the socket box.
  5. Make a niche for the socket box, install the element and bring out the wire.
  6. Disassemble the socket, connect it to the wiring and screw it into place.

For sockets, a wire with a diameter of 2 mm or more is suitable. Grounding is carried out with a 3-wire wire without outlet to pipes.

Important! To protect against shutdown, install a 16 A RCD on the panel.

Checking for leaks

How should you install a domestic dishwasher in a new finished kitchen so that it works without interruption? Test it for leaks. You will need to open the water and, without turning on the device, open the shut-off valve. After switching on, a test program is launched and the presence of leaks is assessed.

If leaks are detected, the following are possible:

  • problems with the aquastop - the drain hose does not fit tightly enough;
  • program selection errors - the drain hose is installed incorrectly;
  • formation of puddles - the fill hose is placed too high, kinked or damaged;
  • errors in draining waste water - the drain pipe is too low.
Important! If access from the central water supply system is blocked, the dishwasher may show flooding errors.
  1. The cabinet parameters should be measured before purchasing a PMM.
  2. It is better to check the adjustment of the legs with a level.
  3. The machine should be placed near the sink - this makes it more convenient to switch between drain and fill.
  4. A metal plate can be used as a vapor barrier.
  5. The height of the dishwasher should be equal to the height of the countertop.

Connecting a dishwasher - step-by-step instructions

Takes ~5 minutes to read

More and more people prefer to wash dishes not themselves, but with the help of a dishwasher. When installing these household appliances, you must understand that connecting a dishwasher is far from an easy task. Therefore, if you are not confident in your abilities or are doing this for the first time, it is better to entrust the connection to an experienced specialist. You can help the master even during the call. Tell us what brand of equipment, what model and series number.

A portable machine with a compact size is considered the easiest to install and connect. In addition, it can be removed immediately after use. With a stationary device it will be more difficult; certain knowledge and skills in the field of plumbing will be required.

If you are confident in your abilities, then you can take care of connecting the dishwasher. This instruction will help you do this correctly and quickly.

Step 1 – Prepare tools and materials

Before installing the device, you need to prepare all the necessary things. The tools will be screwdrivers (straight, curved) and pliers. Consumable raw materials are cotton insulating tape and vinyl.

Insulating tape will need to be wrapped around the metal parts in the future. Here is a list of all items that can be used for installation work:

  • tee with thread diameter ¾ inches, material: brass, bronze;
  • siphon with a fitting, if you plan to purchase a washing machine, you can buy a siphon with 2 fittings, if you have one installed, one will be enough or you can close it with a second bushing;
  • bronze shut-off ball valve with a diameter of ¾ inches;
  • long tube;
  • filter for deep cleaning (extends the service life, the same one is located in front of the water meter);
  • fluoroplastic sealing tape;
  • Euro socket (socket with grounding);
  • wire with the required cross-section and length;
  • electric drill;
  • adjustable wrenches (2 pieces);
  • scissors suitable for metal-plastic pipes;
  • sharp knife;

You have collected the entire set of tools and prepared the supplies. The next step is to choose a suitable location for the dishwasher.

Step 2 – Choose a suitable location

Usually people figure out where new rubbish equipment will be located. If you haven't already, here are some recommendations on where the best place to place your dishwasher is:

  • The built-in type (stationary) requires a place where it will not interfere and where it is convenient to operate. If you are just setting up a kitchen and have not yet purchased furniture, it is better to give preference to a design that involves placing a dishwasher - under the countertop or in the cabinet body. The main thing is that the device does not interfere and does not attract attention.
  • The distance from the dishwasher to the sewer cannot exceed one and a half meters. Otherwise, the pump of the device may fail in a short time. Sometimes difficulties arise when installing a dishwasher cannot be implemented in the kitchen. For example, if it is far from the sink or the sewer does not go into the kitchen. In such cases, a reasonable solution would be to place the device in the bathroom.
  • It is advisable to choose a place closer to the outlet. This will help in the future to immediately connect to the power grid without installing a new outlet.
  • There are models that are installed on the countertop. You don’t have to think too much about how to connect a dishwasher of this type with your own hands. Everything is quite simple here. Simply throw the hose into the sink. This type does not require thinking through the drainage system. Suitable for old houses and small spaces.

After choosing a location, a person must know how to connect the dishwasher to the water supply, sewerage and network.

Step 3 – Connect the water

The first step is to install a tee between the water pipe and the tap. During this manipulation, a branch is formed, to which our unit will join. If the device does not have a water connection function, you need to install a special valve. A filter for water purification is also installed here. Procedure:

  1. Disconnect the flexible mixer hose from the metal-plastic pipe.
  2. Now you need to connect the tee, first wrapping fluoroplastic sealing tape around the thread.
  3. We screw the mixing hose onto the tee from above.
  4. A filter for cleaning is installed on the outlet, then a shut-off valve (here it is also necessary to wind FUM tape).
  5. We take the hose from the equipment and connect it to the tap.

Step 4 – Drain

Here the eyeliner diagram is simpler than in the previous paragraph. It is necessary to install a siphon under the sink, this prevents the spread of unpleasant odors from the sewer throughout the apartment.

The drain circuit is connected to the siphon. The hose should be angled so that the water drains effectively on its own and the hose does not need to be adjusted by hand. I would like to focus attention on an important aspect - at the junction of the siphon and the drain, a V-shaped bend is needed, which will prevent water from pouring from the sink into the drain.

The final stage of connecting to the drainpipe is checking the length of the hose, depending on the pump load.

Step 5 – Supplying electricity

As mentioned above, the outlet should be located directly next to the dishwasher. In addition, it can withstand a current of 16A and is grounded.

The power of the unit is high, so the conductive system must withstand the incoming load. Selecting the correct cross-section of electrical conductors will help with this. Their diameter is from 2 mm.

The distribution of electricity must come from the panel or junction box. It is recommended to protect the transmission line with a 16A circuit breaker. It is necessary to use only Euro sockets with grounding. This requirement is dictated by safety regulations. You should not connect a washing machine or anything else to an outlet with a connected dishwasher! This may cause current overload.

Step 6 – Finishing Work

Align the device parallel to the floor; any movement will disrupt operation.

After connecting all systems, do not rush to close the boxes and grooves. First, test your dishwasher. This is done without dishes, but with the addition of detergent. We thoroughly check the functionality of the entire system: water filling speed, heating, draining, drying mode. Inspect all places to ensure that the pipes are not leaking anywhere and that the connections are securely fastened. After you are convinced that the machine is working properly, you can clean everything up and enjoy your new assistant in the kitchen.

  • Look for the video on YouTube. If you are planning to connect the dishwasher yourself, the video will help you understand the sequence of actions.
  • Do not connect the grounding terminal to gas or water pipes. It needs to be connected to a grounding bus.
  • The distance from the walls to the car is at least 5 cm.
  • Use caution when installing the drain pipe into the sink. Waste water can overflow from the pipe, which threatens to flood your neighbors. The process is not safe, although it makes joining easier.
  • Before you buy, study the models of the most popular brands, read reviews about them, choose the appropriate options at a price that suits you. The best manufacturers of dishwashers are considered to be Bosch, Electrolux, and Siemens; their production equipment is in great demand in Moscow.
  • Do not use power extension cords. They are often the cause of accidents.
  • Every major appliance should have its own line from the junction box. The dishwasher is no exception.

Now you know how to connect a dishwasher. Its use helps housewives relieve some of their household responsibilities, gain more free time and save water consumption.

Most people still have a rather wary attitude towards dishwashers - is it worth purchasing expensive equipment if washing dishes, in principle, is not difficult and by hand. However, if we recall the very recent past, then approximately the same thing was said about automatic “washing machines”, about food processors, even about televisions at the dawn of the appearance of remote controls, and now it is difficult to imagine normal life without it. You quickly get used to something good and convenient, so many owners who have already installed a dishwasher in their kitchen will never want to lose such “convenience.”

Others follow their example, and dishwashers are increasingly becoming an attribute of the modern kitchen. However, this is not at all the type of household appliance that you can simply unpack, plug in and start using right away. In addition to the rather complex electromechanical “filling” and automation, such a device, to a certain extent, of course, is also a plumbing fixture. Therefore, it is extremely important to correctly connect the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system. “Amateur activity” in this matter is not welcome - you will have to comply with a number of certain requirements. Let's try to understand this in more detail.

It must be assumed that if the owners decide to buy a dishwasher, then they have already thought out in advance where it will be installed. In general terms, it depends on which model is more to your liking – compact tabletop or built into kitchen furniture. Accordingly, there may be serious differences in the installation and connection of the device to communications.

In both cases, they try to place the machine as close as possible to the kitchen sink area. This can be explained simply - it becomes possible to connect the device to utilities without resorting to the complex procedure of cutting into pipes - those connections and assemblies that ensure the supply of water to the mixer and its drainage from the sink to the sewer will be quite sufficient. Lengthening the standard hoses of the dishwasher, especially the drain hose, is not recommended, since the capabilities of the sump pump are limited, and you should not overload it so as not to cause rapid wear.

However, such placement is not a dogma at all - you can place the dishwasher in a more convenient place, from the point of view of the owners, but in such a way that within the radius of the length of the standard hoses there is the possibility of inserting into the corresponding sewers (this example will also be discussed in the publication ), or you will have to think about laying an additional section of such pipes specifically for the purpose of connecting the device.

Of course, a power supply line of the appropriate cross-section must be connected in advance to the future installation location of the dishwasher, and a separate outlet must be installed, always with a grounding circuit. The use of extension cords should be completely avoided. Water, high humidity and electricity are already quite a dangerous “neighborhood”, so no connivance like: “Petya has it connected like that - and it’s no big deal” is absolutely unacceptable.

Kitchen power supply is a matter of great importance!

The distinctive features of any kitchen are not only the high level of humidity and constant use of water, but also, perhaps, the highest power consumption of the electrical appliances installed in it. Refrigerator, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher, extractor hood, electric stove and oven, and that’s not even counting the lighting and small household appliances! How to properly organize the power supply to the kitchen is described in detail in the article on our portal dedicated to.

The installation site must be prepared - there must be an appropriate niche for inserting the required dimensions or free space on the countertop for desktop installation. The base must ensure a reliable position of the device, in a strictly horizontal position, supported by all stands to avoid play or increased vibration. Each model of dishwasher has its own requirements for site preparation; the technical documentation provides a description of the installation; the kit usually includes all the necessary fasteners.

There is one more nuance in preparing to install the machine - it must be taken into account in advance. Many models on the back of the case have power cable and hose outlets offset to one side. Thus, the permissible distance to the connection points may be different on the left and right of the dishwasher. Usually this feature is also indicated by the manufacturer in the technical documentation.

Before undertaking the independent installation of a dishwasher, the owner must carefully assess his capabilities and skills. If you have any doubts about your own abilities, it is better to invite an experienced master plumber who has positive recommendations (a considerable number of outspoken “schemers” work in this field). The fact is that violation of installation rules may well lead to termination of the manufacturer’s warranty. Often, large showrooms practice branded installation at a low price, and sometimes even completely free, as one of the ways to stimulate consumer activity. This question should be clarified immediately upon purchase.

In the case when such a service is not provided, and calling a specialist seems to be a significant extra cost, then there is nothing impossible in installing it yourself. And if we “take out of the brackets” the already mentioned power supply line and the features of installing the device in a niche, then the main stage of the process becomes the correct connection of the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system.

Sequence of stages, and is there always a need for a fixed connection

These steps can be carried out in any order. By and large, more difficulties will come from preparing for connection - installing all the elements necessary for this. And, in fact, connecting the hoses coming out of the dishwasher with the water supply and sewerage will be the final step, which is performed almost simultaneously, along with the final installation of the device in place.

We can immediately make a reservation about one point. Tabletop dishwashers, in principle, can sometimes do without a permanent connection to communications. In this case, the water supply hose is connected directly to the spout (there are special adapters for this), and the drain hose is lowered and fixed in the sink bowl.

Dishwasher

Sometimes such a scheme is presented almost as an outstanding advantage - they say, the owners have the opportunity to economically use the space of the countertop, taking the dishwasher out of storage and installing it only as needed.

Let me disagree with these “advantages”:

  • First, it is unlikely that owners will be found who will carry massive equipment back and forth. It’s just inconvenient, and it won’t do any good for an expensive device. But to use a dishwasher from time to time, “on holidays” - so why buy it at all? It should become a faithful assistant in the kitchen, and not at all a source of “secret pride” for its owners.
  • Secondly, from frequent connections and disconnections of the water supply hose, not a single connection will last long - neither threaded nor socket. This is not very good for either - extra loads on the spout loosen it.
  • Third, a dishwasher drain hose lowered into the sink bowl poses a certain danger. Careless movement, sudden pressure, childish prank - all this can lead to the hose jumping out of the sink with all the ensuing (literally) consequences.
  • And fourth, it’s just inconvenient. By simplifying their work during the initial installation of the device, the owners significantly complicate its further operation. The operation of the dishwasher will require constant monitoring, and in addition, while the washing process is in progress, the kitchen sink, which may be needed at this time for other needs, is practically “paralyzed.”

So, the best solution would still be a permanent connection to the water supply and sewerage system, regardless of the type of model. Moreover, there is no noticeable difference in the order in which the work is performed.

Connecting the dishwasher to the water supply

Let's start by connecting the water supply.

To begin with, a small remark. There is an opinion that, in order to save money, it is more profitable to connect the dishwasher to a hot water supply pipe, they say, expensive electricity will not be consumed to heat the water to the temperature required by the washing program.

Indeed, some dishwasher models support this option. Moreover, there are even machines that provide for connection to two mains simultaneously - cold and hot water supply.

All this must be indicated in the product passport. It is prohibited to connect the machine to hot water unless this option is specified by the manufacturer. The electronics of the device may not understand this, and such amateur activity often ends in the “crash” of the programmed dishwashing algorithms.

But even if such an opportunity to choose between hot and cold water supply is given, almost all the experts unanimously recommend not to experiment, and limit yourself to a regular connection to cold water. There are a number of logical explanations for this.

— Firstly, the quality of hot water is often far from ideal.

- Secondly, it happens that the temperature of the water in the hot water supply exceeds the required heating level set for the dishwasher. It seems to be no big deal, but this again can “mislead” the software control unit of the device.

— Thirdly, it’s no secret that problems with the supply of hot water occur many times more often than with cold water, and in the summer, during the period of repair and maintenance work in boiler houses, there may generally be long outages. It turns out that in such situations you will have to switch to hand washing dishes or urgently switch to cold supply. Isn't it too much trouble?

— And fourthly, in matters of economy, everything is also not so obvious. Modern dishwashers of class A and higher are distinguished by very rational consumption of both water and electricity, and should not “break a hole” in the budget due to electricity bills. On the other hand, if the apartment is equipped with water meters, then the water consumption for washing dishes will have to be paid at the “hot” tariff, which is also quite high.

It’s up to the owner to decide, of course, but good advice is to connect to cold water.

Now, actually, about the connection itself. There may be several options here.

A. The simplest solution is when the installation location of the dishwasher and the length of its hoses provide the possibility of connecting to a pipe to which a flexible hose is connected to the kitchen

To do this, the only tools you will need are an adjustable wrench, a sealing winder, and you will need to purchase a special through-tee with a tap designed specifically for such purposes.

Such a tee has a ½-inch “female” thread for packing onto the water supply pipe (item 1), and on the opposite edge has a ½-inch “male” thread (item 2) for reconnecting the flexible connection of the mixer, that is, it provides a through passage of water. The side outlet is equipped with a ¾-inch threaded part (item 3), ideal for connecting dishwasher or washing machine hoses. The tap (item 4) makes it possible to open and close the water supply in this direction as needed.

Connecting will not be difficult.

  • The valve for the general cold water supply to the apartment is closed. Next, you can open any water tap (preferably located closest to the floor level) to relieve excess pressure in the cut-off section of the home water supply.
  • Next, using a wrench, unscrew the nut of the flexible mixer connection and release the threaded part of the pipe. If necessary, the remnants of the old winding are removed from it.
  • The next step is to wind the sealing winding in the direction of tightening the nut. For these purposes, FUM tape can be used, but a connection sealed with ordinary flax tow and coated with a special “Unipak” paste is more reliable.

  • The tee is tightly screwed onto the wound thread. When tightening, make sure that the side outlet with the tap is in a convenient position for connecting the dishwasher hose.

Here we can immediately note one important point. Many modern dishwashers are equipped with an “aqua-stop” system, which has a solenoid valve that will instantly shut off the water supply to the hose if there are signs of a leak (pressure drop). The body of this valve is quite large in size, and is located exactly on the side of the hose that connects to the water pipe.

This means that both when preparing for work, and specifically when installing the tee, it is necessary to take into account how this “aqua-stop” block will fit and whether there will be enough space for it.

  • After the tee is installed, you can immediately install the flexible connection of the kitchen faucet in a new place, changing the rubber ring gasket if necessary.
  • The tap on the tee is moved to the “closed” position, and after that you can open the general water supply - you will immediately be able to check the assembly for leaks, and, if necessary, carry out a tightening.

  • The last step is to screw on the plastic nut of the dishwasher hose. It has its own O-ring and no winding is required. Twisting is done without the use of any tool - just a well-applied hand force.

At this point, in fact, the option of connecting to the water supply directly under the kitchen sink can be considered completed. But it is worth paying attention to one more nuance.

Using a tee circuit will be convenient if one additional water collection point is connected. However, in practice, the space under the sink is often much more crowded. For example, hoses from a washing machine and dishwasher can be connected here, drinking water can be installed, and a flow-through water heater (column) or boiler is often connected.

Under such conditions, the tee system does not justify itself - a complex and heavy structure of tees and adapters is formed under the sink, surrounded by a “web” of hoses and flexible connections, which creates considerable difficulties both for control and for carrying out any preventive or repair work. It will be much more convenient to install a small collector from below, with 4-5 outlets, connect it to a water pipe, and from there make switching to all water collection points.

Such a collector can be purchased ready-made - metal or polypropylene. For those who have at their disposal a machine for welding PP pipes, it will not be difficult to very quickly make a manifold of the desired configuration from polypropylene tees - this is often even more profitable.

Dishwasher

In this case, to connect the dishwasher, you no longer purchase a pass-through tee, but an adapter with a tap.

The collector can be easily secured securely to the wall surface (with clamps or dowels), and all branched switching in the space under the sink will take on an organized appearance. In addition, the interdependence of connected devices operating simultaneously will be reduced to a minimum - with a tee circuit, the opening of water at one water collection point usually entails a drop in pressure at others.

B. The second option is that the length of the hoses to the sink is not enough, extending them is impractical or impossible due to the peculiarities of the arrangement of kitchen furniture, but a cold water supply pipe runs near the installation site of the dishwasher.

The principle is simple - after shutting off the water, you need to cut out a small section of the pipe and install a tee in its place. The tap already mentioned above is sealed to the perpendicular outlet of the tee, and the dishwasher hose is connected to it.

The execution of such alterations depends on the material of the pipe.

  • If it is a metal-plastic pipe, then there is no difficulty. A fragment is cut out, and in its place a tee with press fittings is installed, for packing which a set of wrenches is enough. Next, install the tap with conventional winding - and the unit is ready to connect the device.

  • It is not much more difficult to cut into a polypropylene pipe, although this will require a special welding machine. Of course, purchasing it because of three or four joints is unprofitable, but usually such a device is easy to rent for a day or two, it is not so expensive.

A welding machine for polypropylene pipes is a reliable home assistant.

To be honest, it never hurts to have your own inexpensive equipment for welding polypropylene pipes - it can bulge in various situations and will allow you to easily and cheaply upgrade home communications. How to do it right - in a special publication on our portal. And another article will help you learn easily and quickly.

When welding polypropylene on a section that has already been installed previously, a certain amount of play in the pipe is necessary so that it is possible to insert mating parts into the soldering iron from both sides. This is not always possible, so it is easier to resort to welding two American union nuts, and between them already mark a regular brass tee with a tap sealed on it for connecting the dishwasher hose.

fum tape

  • The hardest part will be if you need to cut into a steel pipe.

— You can cut out a section, cut threads on the remaining ends, and then mount a tee from it, either according to the driving principle, or also using “American” ones. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to cut threads, since a special tool is required.

— Another option is to install a so-called repair clip (bandage tee).

This product allows you to cut into a steel pipe in almost any convenient place on a straight section. The clip with rubber seals is installed on the pipe in the desired position and tightened tightly with bolts. Then the pipe wall is carefully drilled through the tee hole. Next, everything is simple - packing the faucet and connecting the hose as usual.

The method is quite simple, but, to be honest, it is not particularly praised. First, the pipe body is weakened. Secondly, there are known cases of leaks starting in this particular place, and eliminating them will be very difficult. And thirdly, the hole drilled in the pipe often becomes a vulnerable point from the point of view of the formation of blockages.

IN. Finally, the third option is when the dishwasher is located far from the cold water supply pipe.

Increasing the length of hoses means increasing the vulnerability of communications to possible leaks - any flexible line is still less reliable than a stationary high-quality pipe. This means that it is necessary to lead the water to the machine.

Laying an additional section of water supply to the installation site of the device is usually not difficult, and it will require little money. Another thing is how convenient it will be, and how beautiful it will be. If the pipe is completely hidden behind pieces of kitchen furniture, there are no questions.

But it is best, of course, to think through all the issues of future installation in advance, that is, when installing a home water supply and sewer system, immediately provide connection points for household appliances. The ideal option is hidden pipe laying with installation of water outlets on the walls in the right places.

Connecting the dishwasher to the sewer

You can find a lot of articles that claim that connecting a dishwasher to a sewer is generally a simple operation that does not require compliance with any rules. They say that the drainage hose of the device is installed through a sealing rubber coupling into a 50 mm socket of a sewer pipe specially prepared for it - and this issue is resolved. Alas, not everything is so simple, and followers of this technique may well encounter very unpleasant moments.

Firstly, a water seal must be a prerequisite, otherwise unpleasant odors from the sewer will penetrate through the hose into the dishwasher.

Secondly, you should be careful about the backflow of water from the sewer into the machine. To do this, the upper loop of the drainage hose must be located no less than 400÷500 mm from the floor level. Where did these values come from? Apparently, the level of the filled bathtub is taken into account - with a sudden release of water and some temporary problems with the permeability of the sewer pipe, the water in it, according to the physical law of communicating vessels, will tend to rise to the general current level. A looped bend at the right height will prevent it from entering the dishwasher.

Third, directly inserting the drain hose into the sewer pipe using a seal makes this connection virtually airtight. Oddly enough, in this case this is not at all an advantage. Ideally, the pressure in sewer pipes should be equalized with atmospheric pressure so that areas of vacuum are not created. Otherwise, this may result in the so-called “siphon effect” - a massive discharge of water in one of the areas causes a spontaneous flow of water in others connected to it. This leads to the fact that the pipe itself begins to “suck” water from the dishwasher. This phenomenon can cause unbalance of automation, the appearance of software errors and even equipment failure. By the way, the opposite option cannot be completely ruled out - throwing dirty waste into the car, the consequences of which you don’t even want to think about.

But on the other hand, a leaky connection between the hose and pipe means the possibility of leakage and the spread of unpleasant odors. How to do the right thing.

There are several acceptable options:

  • One of the simplest, most inexpensive and effective is to install a drain siphon on the kitchen sink with a special pipe for connecting the drainage hoses of household appliances.

As can be seen from the illustration, the siphon can have two pipes - if there is a need to connect both the washing machine and

The pipe usually ends in a conical fitting, the raised, stepped surface of which ensures reliable fixation of the hose after tightening the clamp.

adapter with tap

This connection of the drainage hose, in principle, meets all of the above requirements:

— The water seal against the spread of odors from the sewer is ensured by the design of the kitchen siphon itself.

— The connection point is located at the top; the upper bend of the drainage channel itself is formed.

— At the same time, the drainage hose is not tightly connected to the sewer pipe - it communicates with the atmosphere through the drain hole of the sink. That is, the siphon effect is completely eliminated.

  • The above method is very good, but, alas, not always possible. For example, the sink is located out of reach of the dishwasher drain hose, and a section of the sewer pipe has to be pulled through. Another example is that the design of the sink itself and its “branded” drain do not require any changes, and such a connection becomes impossible.

There is nothing to do, you will have to connect to the sewer pipe. If its outlet is already occupied by a corrugated pipe from the sink, it’s okay, you can install an “oblique” tee, reconnect the siphon, and use the second outlet for the dishwasher. And the connection here, whatever one may say, will still have to be made airtight, using a sealing rubber coupling, otherwise an unpleasant odor cannot be avoided.

But what then about the rest of the connection requirements?

The easiest way to solve the issue is to provide a water seal and ensure the required loop height. You can purchase a special polymer insert (they are often even included in the equipment supply), fix it in the intended place on the wall, and fix the hose in it at the desired height. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the hose is positioned in such a way that a lower bend is created (like the letter S) - it will serve as a water seal.

But what about the potential threat of the “siphon effect”? There are also ready-made solutions for this.

— Installation of a simple “anti-siphon” valve on the hose.

This product is inexpensive and very easy to install. The hose is cut and then connected through this valve, covered with clamps. The disadvantage of the simplest device is its short service life, usually not exceeding six months. After this, you will have to purchase a new valve, since it is practically impossible to maintain.

— A more reasonable option is to purchase an “anti-siphon” valve, made in the form of a loop. Not only does this immediately solve all the problems of proper hose placement, but such devices are completely subject to regular cleaning, which means they will last much longer.

A slightly more expensive and complex solution, but extremely convenient to use and meeting absolutely all requirements, is the installation of a special wall siphon for a dishwasher (washing machine). They come in wall-mounted or hidden versions, with varying degrees of decorativeness, but they are united by the presence of all the necessary valve devices that ensure comprehensive safety of connecting the device to the sewer.

The rear wide pipe is hermetically connected to a vertical branch of a 50 mm sewer pipe, and the dishwasher drain hose is connected to the front pipe. In fact, it turns out to be a kind of analogue of a water outlet, only for the exact opposite purpose. They are usually replaced side by side, creating a special switching zone for the device.

Moreover, if you want to give such a connection unit an external “impressiveness,” you can purchase an entire console structure, which includes a drain siphon with all the valves, a water outlet with a tap, and even a power outlet. Such devices are usually equipped with decorative facade plates - both beautiful and with everything needed for connection at a glance.

And finally, we can mention another very interesting technological solution. Some manufacturers equip their models with a special valve that provides the necessary air gap to eliminate negative impacts from the sewer system. The design approach itself is interesting - the valve cuts into the surface of the countertop or the back horizontal panel of the kitchen sink.

Such a valve is placed in a place where it will not interfere, and covered with a decorative cap on top. From time to time it will require preventive maintenance, but removing the cap and cleaning will not be difficult.

So, various options for connecting the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system were considered. Some of them are completely simple, others will require certain knowledge and skills. However, none of them can be said to be completely inaccessible for independent execution.

In conclusion, there is a short video in which the master shares his experience of connecting a dishwasher. After receiving the information presented in the article, the reader will probably be interested in looking at and analyzing some of the mistakes made by the installer. There is no need to blindly copy this.

Video: example of connecting a dishwasher

Connecting a dishwasher to the water supply and sewer system yourself involves several simple steps that will require tools, attention and patience.

To connect any household appliance in your own apartment or house, the homeowner does not need to study mountains of technical literature.

Preparing materials and tools for work

The initial stage of any construction or installation work is the preparation of the necessary tools. Connecting the dishwasher to the sewer will also require the purchase of materials. It is best to worry about this immediately after purchasing the equipment. When the dishwashing machine is installed under standard conditions. For example, the house has been installed with metal-plastic pipes with a diameter of 20 millimeters and electricity has been installed. The set of parts will look like this:

  • a sewer siphon equipped with two fittings in case the home owner decides to place a washing machine and dishwasher in the same room;
  • a tee having a diameter identical to the circumference of the pipes;
  • shut-off valve with the diameter indicated above;
  • deep cleaning filter designed to prolong the service life of equipment;
  • FUM tape;
  • socket equipped with grounding;
  • wire required in the case when connecting the dishwasher to the water supply and sewer system requires the presence of an outlet near the installation site of the equipment. The installer will have to run a new line from the junction box.

Often, factory-installed dishwashers are equipped with drain and water supply hoses of short length. Therefore, to avoid downtime during installation work, it is better to check the length of the hoses when purchasing and, if necessary, buy parts of the appropriate size. It is important to remember that before going to the store you should measure the required distance several times.

The list of tools needed for the job is as follows:

  1. Drill (it is better to use an electric version);
  2. Two types of screwdrivers (curly and straight);
  3. A well-sharpened or stationery knife;
  4. Scissors that can easily handle cutting a metal-plastic pipe;
  5. Building level;
  6. A pair of adjustable wrenches;
  7. Screwdriver with indicator for determining the phase.

Armed with everything you need from these lists, you can begin installing the equipment. This work begins with choosing the optimal location for the dishwasher.

Selecting a location

It is immediately necessary to make a reservation that the place for installing the equipment should be chosen in advance. Think about the question of how to connect the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system. If this point was missed, then you should carefully read the following nuances:

  • Dimensions built-in appliances should not exceed or be smaller than the size of the furniture. To install a dishwasher, you can use a special section in the kitchen unit, in which the equipment can be installed under the countertop, hob or sink. You can place such a section in a closet. Naturally, if this does not cause operational difficulties.
  • Distance the drainage system cannot be more than one and a half meters away. Otherwise, the dishwasher pump will not be able to withstand the load for long and will very quickly become unusable. If it is not possible to install a dishwasher closer to the specified distance in the kitchen of a house or apartment, then it is worth considering the option of installing the equipment in the bathroom. An identical situation arises when there is no sewer outlet in the kitchen.
  • Installation location should be located in close proximity to the outlet. In this case, there is no need to draw an additional line and ditch the walls.

Features of tabletop type

If the purchased dishwasher model is a tabletop type, you don’t have to think through the water drainage system for installation. The installation process will only require securely fixing the hose in the sink (this option can only be used when installing appliances in the kitchen). In addition, a siphon is not required here. And the machine’s pump will rest most of the time, which will have a positive effect on its service life. Another advantage of a tabletop dishwasher lies in the ability to place it in a small room.

In addition to these nuances, there are several rules that installers apply when installing built-in equipment:

  1. The distance to drain points and places where water is connected must be at least a meter.
  2. When installing it yourself, it is important to place the equipment on a flat surface, that is, all the legs of the dishwasher must rest firmly on the floor. The construction level is designed to help perform such work.
  3. The permissible deviation of built-in equipment in a horizontal position is no more than two degrees.
  4. Before fixing the machine in its place, it is necessary to make all the holes in the furniture and walls. Also measure the required distance between the wall and the back of the housing.

When using various fuse systems, it is important to consider a protected place for them, which can be easily accessed if necessary.

Water connection

Of all the work, connecting a dishwasher to a sewer system is considered the most energy-consuming and labor-intensive. First of all, it is necessary to completely block the access of water, because the tee will cut into the system pipe.

Connecting the dishwasher to the sewer and water supply is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  • Finding the connection point of the flexible hose on the mixer to the drainpipe and then disconnecting it.
  • Installation of a tee with FUM tape pre-wound on the thread.
  • Connecting a flexible hose from a mixer to a tee.
  • Connection to the outlet of a fine filter, as well as a shut-off valve with a pre-wound thread on the thread.
  • Connecting the hose from the dishwasher to the faucet.

It is worth emphasizing that when connecting a dishwasher, it is best to use the cold water outlet. The fact is that hot water is of much worse quality.

When it comes to installing equipment in a private home, where interruptions in water supply often occur. The way out of the situation lies in installing a small tank with clean water in the attic. For normal operation of most modern dishwashers, it is enough to create a pressure of only 0.1 MPa. This is precisely the value obtained in a situation where water flows down from a height of several meters. But, nevertheless, it is better to carefully study the technical data sheet of the device and make sure of the operating pressure.

Drain connection

This stage is much easier than the previous one. The best option for installing a siphon would be to place it under the sink. With this installation, draining the dishwasher into the sewer prevents the spread of unpleasant sewer odors throughout the kitchen and other rooms.

Connecting the dishwasher drain to the sewer system involves connecting the drain circuit to the siphon. It is important here to ensure that the hose is positioned at an angle. The larger the angle, the better the water drainage effect (gravity flow).

It is important to pay attention to the fact that at the top, where the drain joins the siphon, an inflection should be made. Such a place will prevent water from entering the dishwasher drain from the sink.

Electricity supply

As noted earlier, the dishwasher must be powered from a nearby outlet. The current value in it should not be less than 16 amperes. In addition, the outlet must be equipped with grounding.

Due to the fact that modern dishwashers have a high power rating, the wiring in an apartment or house must be designed for such passing loads. To prevent the plugs from constantly being knocked out, you need to take care of purchasing electrical wiring with a suitable core cross-section. The ideal option is to calculate the cable cross-section and, based on this information, select the appropriate wires.

A copper cable with a cross-section of at least 2 millimeters is considered optimal for connecting a dishwasher.

Electricity should be supplied from the panel or from the distribution box. In this case, a mandatory step in the work is the installation of line protection using a circuit breaker.

Under no circumstances should you connect equipment without grounding, since correctly connecting a dishwasher to a sewer can only be done in compliance with electrical safety requirements.

When other electrical appliances, for example a washing machine, are already connected to the outlet, you cannot also connect the dishwasher. In such a situation, an overload may occur, which, at best, will lead to knockout of the plugs in the shield. In the worst case scenario, household appliances will be damaged.

Finish stage

After connecting all communications, the installer only needs to place the dishwasher strictly at level and conduct a control test of the work performed. You can level the equipment by adjusting the legs or using a special device - a building level. If there is misalignment at the installation site, this will negatively affect the productivity of the equipment, and will also lead to increased wear of working parts.

The final stage of installation involves connecting the dishwasher and checking the quality of its operation. To perform these actions, it is enough to activate the test mode, which tests the system without loading dishes. Here you will need to carefully monitor the speed of water intake and drainage, as well as the absence of leaks at connections and joints.

Despite the guarantees of reliability of the equipment considered by the manufacturers, everyday use makes its own adjustments to the operation of dishwashers. To remain confident in the smooth functioning of the dishwasher and prevent the room from flooding with water, the operation of this equipment must be ensured by appropriate conditions. All of them are given in the article and answer the question of how to connect a dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system yourself.

Everything useful about sewerage -

A useful appliance in the kitchen is a dishwasher. It helps to save water, valuable time that can be spent on proper rest, communication with family, and doing household chores. If the family is large and everyone loves delicious home-cooked food, by the end of the day a lot of dishes accumulate, left over from preparing and eating food.

This wonderful device will easily cope with the task of washing dishes; the quality of the wash will surprise the demanding housewife. When the machine is purchased, it needs to be installed and connected. Below is a step-by-step instruction that will tell you how to connect a dishwasher with your own hands to the water supply, cold and hot water, sewerage, electricity, how to choose the right place, how to install the equipment.

Dishwasher in the kitchen

Dishwashers are gaining great popularity and are often found in apartments and houses. Washing dishes in a machine is convenient and comfortable. The device allows you to save water consumption and electricity required to heat water. It is not surprising that a dishwasher is present in many homes or is planned for the nearest purchase. The best time to decide to purchase this device is when renovating a kitchen.

If the place is determined and prepared, you can install the machine at any time. Installation work is not complicated, you can successfully complete it yourself. What is needed to connect a dishwasher?

The dishwasher does not require any special installation. After installing the machine, you will need to connect to the main networks:

  • electricity,
  • water supply,
  • sewerage.

In some cases, you can connect the device to hot water, but not all models allow this method; this should be indicated in the instructions.

Preparing the installation site

First you need to decide on the location of the equipment. It is advisable to foresee the placement location in advance in the kitchen design, but you can easily install it at any time if the necessary networks are nearby: water supply, sewerage, electricity.

The optimal location is near the sink. Before purchasing, it is necessary to evaluate the amount of space available, because the equipment is offered in different sizes. To gain additional space, it is worth giving up one kitchen cabinet.

Freestanding models have standard widths:

  • 60 cm,
  • 45 cm.

The standard depth is 60 cm, height is 85 cm. In most cases, the machines are equipped with legs that allow minor adjustments (raise, lower by 2-4 cm). Some free-standing models allow installation under the kitchen countertop; their top cover can be removed. Built-in machines have similar dimensions.

Installing and connecting a built-in machine will require great accuracy in measuring the installation location. The built-in option must be provided at the stage of ordering kitchen furniture. When the machine is built-in, any intervention is difficult or impossible.

An interesting solution is a compact dishwasher installed on the kitchen table. The compact model resembles a home microwave oven in appearance and does not require much space. Compact appliances will complement a small kitchen where it is impossible to install standard-sized appliances. Compact models are purchased by residents of rented apartments, childless couples, and bachelors.

What kind of water can I connect to?

The machine must be connected to a water supply, usually cold water. Some models can use hot water at 60°C. However, the profitability of this option is noticeable in the following situations:

  1. water is heated through the use of alternative energy sources (solar collectors, heat pumps);
  2. hot water is supplied by a boiler or gas heater, you can save a little, because the energy from burning gas is cheaper than electricity;
  3. The water is heated by a solid fuel boiler or a fireplace with a water jacket.

Using hot water is useful if the heating element burns out; replacing this component is expensive. Unfortunately, in modern technology, spare parts do not last very long; they are sold assembled, as a unit, so replacement is expensive. As the experience of the author of the article shows, this rule applies to little-known and popular brands present on the household appliances market.

Before connecting to the water supply, you need to make sure that the water:

  1. not too hard
  2. does not contain large amounts of iron, manganese.

What hardness is acceptable?

  • if the total hardness is less than 7 on the hardness scale, there is no need to use conditioner - the water is considered soft;
  • If the total hardness exceeds 7, water softening should be used.

When heated, compounds contained in water decompose into insoluble carbonates, forming scale (a phenomenon well known to people who use electric kettles).

Increased water hardness can:

  1. damage the device,
  2. significantly reduce the quality of washing.

To reduce hardness, it is necessary to install appropriate main filters at the entrance of the water supply to the apartment or directly in front of the equipment.

Connection to water supply

You can connect the water to the dishwasher yourself. Each machine is equipped with a water supply hose. Depending on the manufacturer, the lengths of the hoses are:

If the hose in the purchased model is too short, you need to purchase an extended version. It is not recommended to extend water hoses by connecting them to each other, as this may cause water leakage at the joints.

An easy way is to connect the dishwasher to the water - under the sink. Flexible high-pressure hoses that need to be hidden in the sink cabinet are suitable for these connections (the hose is included with the machine).

To connect you need

  1. Turn off the main water supply valve in the apartment.
  2. Unscrew the pipe.
  3. Water is supplied to the sink through 2 pipes (cold and hot). A tee with a faucet for the machine is installed on the cold water pipe. If the dishwasher is connected to hot water, a similar tee is installed on the hot water pipe.
  4. We screw the high pressure hose to the faucet and to the machine.

Checking the tightness of the system

After installing the pipes, it is necessary to check the tightness of the system. The tightness is checked by opening the main tap in the apartment, and then after the first start of the machine.

It is important to check the pressure in the water supply system. To operate the device, it is sufficient to provide a water supply of at least 10-15 l/min; the water pressure must have the value specified by the manufacturer (range: 0.1-1 MPa).

Connecting a dishwasher to the sewer - options

Most dishwashers have their own hoses and tubes for draining used water. They have different lengths, but the outflow pipe, if necessary, must be lengthened while maintaining the necessary tightness.

Attention! To prevent unpleasant odors from appearing in the dishwasher, it is important to ensure that wastewater is removed at the proper slope.

If the sewer system is being built from scratch, it should be remembered that near the location of the device there must be an outlet to the sewer with a diameter of at least 4 cm, preferably with an inlet opening directed upwards, possibly extending horizontally from the wall. The bent end of the flexible drainage hose, which is usually equipped with the machine, must be placed in the drain pipe and secured to the wall with a special handle so that it does not fall out.

Connection to the sewer, photo

You can use a special rubber plug with a hole for the hose or a plastic sewer connection with a 1/2-inch connection to attach the drain hose.

If there is no drain to which the dishwasher can be connected directly, you can use a sink trap. You will need to replace the top fitting of the siphon with a tee for connection with a side connection. The design of some siphons includes a tee fitting for installing a drain pipe, then you do not have to install anything additional. This connection is used to install the drain hose. To increase the tightness of the connections, you must additionally use clamps.

The minimum height of the drain hose is 40 centimeters. The height of the drain hole is usually specified by the manufacturer in the instructions. Compliance with this slope will protect against unwanted odors from sewer pipes.

Electrical connection

All devices available on the market operate at a nominal voltage of 220 V and have an electrical cable with a plug.

Important! The outlet must be grounded.

It is worth noting that for safety reasons this should not be done when connecting to the mains. Dishwashers are equipped with a system that interrupts the water supply when malfunctions or internal leaks occur.

What not to do!

  • An extension cord must not be used. According to safety regulations, the machine should be connected directly to a grounded outlet.
  • Location of sockets. If the appliance is installed next to a sink, there is an electrical outlet nearby and there is a risk of contact with water. You should ensure safety - consider installing a moisture-resistant outlet. This issue is especially important if children live in the house.

Using the above rules, you can easily connect the dishwasher to the networks with your own hands. You will need a little skill, basic tools, a tee, a faucet. Installing a dishwasher is not difficult, it is important to follow the recommendations exactly. If the task is to do the installation professionally, to prevent sudden flooding of the apartment, it is better to entrust the work to a plumber.
