How to quickly clean the grate of the hood from fat at home

Over time, greasy deposits and soot appear on the hood. If you start the situation, then soon the dirt can stick up the hood filter so much that it stops working. Regular cleaning with improvised means will help prevent this. All parts of the hood require cleaning: from the filter to the grate, which is in plain sight.

Full cleaning of the hood involves washing all its components. Before starting the procedures, you must refer to the instructions that came with the hood. This is necessary in order to find out which parts are removable.

Then you should act like this:

  • disconnect equipment from the network;
  • move the latches and remove the hood cover, if any;
  • remove the filter;
  • remove the pipe that leads to the vent, if it is dismantled;
  • get the air filter.

Elements that cannot be dismantled are cleaned in a fixed position. All removed parts of the hood must first be thoroughly washed in soapy water. But in order to qualitatively wash the grate and filter, you will have to turn to proven folk recipes.

improvised means

In household chemical stores you can find special cleaning compounds for cleaning the hood. But if you do not want to spend money, then you can use folk remedies.

To begin with, you can apply mechanical action - clean the grate with a brush and warm water. Then move on to more serious remedies: vinegar, soda, citric acid, etc.

Vinegar

Vinegar is able to cope even with stubborn fat on the surface of the grate. For this you need:

  • moisten a cloth or sponge in vinegar and wipe the dirt;
  • wait 7-10 minutes;
  • when the vinegar dissolves the grease, rinse the grate with a cloth dampened with water.

It is worth remembering that vinegar can damage the skin of the hands and has a pungent odor. Therefore, before cleaning, it is recommended to wear rubber gloves and open the window in the room.

Ammonia

Ammonia is well suited for cleaning the exhaust filter at home.

Action algorithm:

  • take a large pot and pour 4 liters of water into it;
  • bring water to a boil;
  • remove the pan from the stove and add 100 ml of ammonia;
  • lower the filter mesh into the container;
  • after 5-10 minutes (depending on the contamination of the part), remove the filter;
  • rinse thoroughly with running water.

This tool will help get rid of both fresh and old stains of fat.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice will help to quickly deal with pollution if the fat and soot on the hood are quite fresh.

Cleaning steps:

  1. Cut the lemon in half. To clean the filter and grate, you can dissolve the juice of two lemon halves in a glass of water.
  2. Wipe the hood grate with half of the fruit. Or moisten a rag or sponge with the prepared lemon juice solution and rub the filter.
  3. Leave for 10 minutes.
  4. Use a brush to remove any remaining dirt from the surface to be cleaned.
  5. Rinse the parts with a clean, damp cloth.

If after this the contamination is not completely removed, then the procedure can be repeated.

Soda

With soda, you can easily clean the filter, mesh and ventilation grille of the hood. For this you need:

  • pour 5 liters of water into an aluminum pan;
  • bring to a boil and pour half a glass of soda into boiling water;
  • reduce the heat to a minimum so that the water continues to boil;
  • put a ventilation grill and a metal filter in the pan;
  • after 5 minutes, check whether the fat is cleaned off well enough;
  • if the fat comes off easily, then you need to get the parts and rinse them with a sponge moistened with warm water;
  • in hard-to-reach places, fat should be removed with a cotton swab.

To enhance the effect of soda, you can add shavings of laundry soap to boiling water.

Dishwashing liquid

Dishwashing liquid will allow you to cope with greasy deposits without worries. But this remedy will only work if the pollution is very fresh.

You will need to dissolve 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent in 3 liters of hot water. Then put the filter into the prepared solution and leave for 5-10 minutes. After the fat has dissolved, you need to wipe the remaining dirt with a sponge or brush. After cleaning, rinse the part with boiling water.

If necessary, you can repeat the procedure.

Laundry soap and bleach

To clean the hood at home, it is better to take laundry soap with a high content of fatty acids (usually 72%). Half a bar of this soap should be grated. Then pour the chips with 2 liters of boiling water and stir thoroughly so that the soap dissolves completely. Wipe contaminated surfaces with the resulting solution. Leave for 5 minutes and remove the remaining grease with a brush or plastic scraper. Then rinse the cleaned parts under running water.

If the pollution is old, then 50 g of soda and 50 g of salt can be added to the shavings of laundry soap.

A good helper in the fight against grease on the hood can be ordinary Whiteness containing chlorine. To do this, wet the contaminated areas with water. Then, using an old toothbrush or sponge, apply Whiteness to the areas of fat accumulation. Wait 10 minutes and remove the bleach with a damp sponge or cloth.

Pipe cleaner

The pipe cleaner contains very aggressive substances that can damage the mesh and filter of the hood. Therefore, such drastic measures should be taken only if other methods have not helped to cope with pollution. Of course, it is better not to bring the equipment to such a state, but if the problem already exists, then you can buy a pipe cleaner in the form of a liquid or powder in a household chemicals store.

Before carrying out the procedure, it is required to protect your hands with high-quality rubber gloves.

If the cleaning agent is in liquid form, then it is necessary:

  • plug the drain hole in the stainless steel sink with a stopper;
  • pour pipe cleaner into the sink in the amount indicated in the instructions;
  • put a filter or grate in the sink;
  • leave for 5-10 minutes depending on the contamination;
  • after this time, remove the parts and rinse them thoroughly with running water.

If the product is purchased in the form of a powder, then you will need:

  • put the hood part in a deep baking sheet and sprinkle pipe cleaner on top;
  • pour hot water;
  • leave for 10 minutes;
  • remove the part and rinse it with water;
  • carefully pour the solution from the baking sheet into the toilet bowl.

Such aggressive cleaning can be carried out no more than 1-2 times during the entire life of the hood and only in emergency cases.

How to clean a stainless steel grate

If the hood grate is made of stainless steel, then abrasive substances should not be used for cleaning: powders, salt, soda. This may cause corrosion of the material.

To clean stainless steel, you can use:

  • vinegar;
  • lemon juice;
  • laundry soap and dishwashing detergent;
  • special .

Methods for cleaning the hood with these substances have already been discussed above.

In order for the hood to purify the air with high quality for several years, it is necessary to properly and regularly care for it:

  • if the appliances are installed in the kitchen above the stove, greasy splashes should be removed from the surface of the hood after each cooking;
  • wash the filter 1-2 times a month;
  • choose cleaning products according to the material and the degree of contamination;
  • carefully study the instructions for the hood before dismantling it.
