How to install a wall-mounted mixer. How to install a mixer in the bathroom on the wall

In this article we will consider two options for installing a mixer. One of them is the replacement of the old mixer with a new one, and the second one is the installation of a mixer in the bathroom during the repair. The options are very similar one to the other, but each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Replacing an old mixer

Select mixer

Old mixer that needs to be changed

In order to replace old mixer, we certainly need to buy a new one. We will not specifically name the best manufacturers of sanitary ware, but just try to figure out what parameters should be used to assess the faucet for the bathroom:

  • Weight. The quality of the mixer can often be determined by weight. A good device can not be easy, because the thickness of the metal largely determines the long-term service. Of course, in a heavy mixer there may be drawbacks, but weight is a pledge of the thickness of the metal.
  • Metal. Mixers can be made of silumin and brass. Silumin are much cheaper and lighter than brass counterparts. But silumin (an alloy of aluminum with silicon) is not a strong metal. Mixers from this material often break off the handle or burst nuts. They are short-lived and their only advantage is the low price of the products. Brass (multicomponent copper alloy) is much more expensive than silumin, they prevail in mass and have an increased viscosity of the alloy. The viscous alloy does not allow the pipe or the clamping nut to break with slight deformation, which can not be avoided during installation and use of the crane. Brass valves are not so prone to corrosion and have a more impressive look.
  • Options. Once you have decided, then in addition to all its qualities, you need to pay attention to the technical parameters. Even the most expensive and high-quality device may not be suitable if its parameters do not correspond to the installation site. It should be determined whether you need a mixer with or without a crane, and if with a tap, then how long should this element be.

Dismantling

Dismantling of the old mixer

Dismantling the old mixer is not difficult, but before dismantling it is necessary to cut off the water. And it is necessary to cover not only the main line, but also hot water supplied from an electric or gas column. The replacement will be made in the bathroom, already tiled. Replacement manual can be viewed on the video located on this page of the site.

For dismantling, as well as for installing a new mixer, we need two keys - gas and adjustable. It is possible that pliers will be useful, but it is not necessary.

Having lowered water from the crane, unscrew it from the wall. Do this carefully so as not to damage the thread on the fitting in the wall. Otherwise, we expect not just a replacement of the crane, but a full repair, as it will have to break the wall to replace the fitting.

After dismantling, carefully clean the remaining fitting in the wall with internal threads from pieces of old winding and, possibly, paint.

Mixer

New Mixer

The installation of a bathroom faucet also implies the assembly of the latter. They are sold in disassembled form and, buying such a crane, you need to carefully check the availability of all components:

  • the main unit;
  • gander;
  • shower head;
  • shower hose;
  • eccentrics;
  • decorative plafonds;
  • gaskets.

Such an assortment of accessories should be waiting for you in a shipping box. And all this should be packaged in fabric and cellophane bags. Check fastening nuts and eccentrics for the integrity of the thread.

Installation

We will assemble the mixer, that is, connect the gander and the shower hose with the watering can before it is installed or after it - it does not matter in principle. All come in different ways, and each master has the most weighty arguments in favor of this or that option.

But, we are not interested in this. We will not even be distracted by the assembly, since even the child collecting the designer can do this task, especially as you can see the assembly on the video clip attached to this page. Let's just mention that with the correct assembly, you can do without keys or when using it, tighten the nuts with minimal effort.

Be careful if you have to step on acrylic bath. With a certain effort when mounting the mixer, you can damage it.

Mounting the new mixer

Let's start the montage. When installing, we will use a tape tape. But it is possible and a winding paste, with the addition of "Unipack" paste, as seen in the video. We reel the eccentrics and screw them into the fittings that are in the wall. Eccentrics serve to offset the distance between centers. The distance between the two inputs is 150 mm. If this distance has been violated during fitting of fittings, or vertical mixing has occurred, then eccentrics help to reach the necessary 150 mm. But, nevertheless, twisting eccentrics - use the level.

After installing the eccentrics, try on them the main unit. Try to wind it. If both sides of the block are screwed without problems, then the eccentrics are installed correctly. We remove the block and wind on the eccentrics decorative plafonds. Plafonds should fit snugly against the tile. This is also one of the indicators of the correct installation.

Then we wind the block itself. Do not resort to any additional coiling material. For a dense shrinkage of the mixer, it is sufficient to have those gaskets that are inside the pressure nuts. Nuts slightly tighten the key. With a normal tightening, the key seems to creak. This is felt by the hand and, in some cases, by the ear.

If you have not assembled the mixer before installing it - do it now. Do not forget that the use of the key in this case is an exception, and not an absolute necessity. Open the main valve and hot water. Check the mixer for operation.

Installing the mixer on a new wall

How to replace the old mixer, I hope everyone understands. But what if we have to change the plumbing pipes and tile the walls with tiles? The essence of the installation will still remain the same, but just how to start this installation, we will consider below.

In order to output fittings for the installation of the mixer, several parameters must be calculated:

  1. First, the distance between the centers of the fittings must be 150 mm, and they must be strictly parallel to each other;
  2. Secondly, the end point of the fitting, after laying ceramic tiles, should be flush with the plane of the wall;
  3. Thirdly, they must be on the same level and at an acceptable height for the installation of the mixer, you can navigate to the side of the bath.

The mixer is important detail  bathroom, because it is it allows you to get water of the necessary temperature. From its installation depends the absence of leaks and long term  operation. With their hands, the mixer can be supplied if desired, anyway, at the same time, much will not be required for this work.

Types of bathroom faucets

Modern models have several options:

What should I look for when choosing a mixer?

Before proceeding to install the mixer with your own hands, you need to get it for a start. A good quality model should have certain parameters, which we'll talk about.

Usually, produce  Bathroom Faucets of the following materials:

  • Silumina.
  • Brass.

Products made of silumin, weigh less brass devices, and cost less. However, such mixers, even from well-known manufacturers, are not too resistant to intergranular corrosion, which lacks primary signs. Only small white patches resembling saline deposits can appear. At some point during the tap on the faucet the faucet simply breaks. Therefore, select the spout on the yellow neck, since the gray indicates that the model is from silumin. Although, despite all the shortcomings, they are in high demand because of the low price.

But mixers from brass  more expensive and heavier. After all, as is known, this material is viscous, so the spouts and nuts in such devices do not break from the efforts. From this it can be concluded that brass products are more durable.

The quality of the mixer is often determined by weight. A good product will never be easy, since its service life depends on the thickness of the metal. Of course, heavy models can have drawbacks, but the fact that the manufacturer did not save on materials is already good.

Even when choosing a bathroom faucet, it is necessary to consider it dimensions. In addition, the products must be correspond to the place  its installation. For example, it is impossible to build a model on the wall, which is mounted on the side of the bath.

In addition, check whether the mixer's working elements are suitable - whether there are anchorages for the watering can on the wall, the length of the hose and spout.

Mixing stages

Waterproofing and toolset

For work you will need:

  • Combination pliers.
  • Vinyl insulating tape.
  • Gas or adjustable wrench.

Insulating tape is wrapped in several layers of nickel-plated nuts. This is done before they are tightened, so as not to damage the cover of the mixer. But the key is used to dismantle products.

Waterproofing  perform the most often a tape FUM (fumka). Of course, today some plumbers still use a plumbing cable, but the bag is still better. It is wound clockwise in 15 layers per thread. When the nut is tightened, this tape will begin to be pressed into the thread, providing a firm seal.

Do not forget that if you wind the fad in the other direction, it will slip and wrinkle. To fix everything, the old tape should be removed, and the new tape should be wound in the opposite direction.

Removing the old bathroom faucet

Dismantling a bad device is not very difficult, the main thing before this block the main line, as well as hot water from a gas column or an electric boiler.

The first thing to do is to drain the remaining water from the tap, after which you can begin to unscrew the mixer from the wall. At the same time, it is not necessary to apply pressure to it, so as not to damage the thread on the fitting, which is located in the wall. If it is damaged, the wall must be completely repaired, as the fitting without removing the surface will not be replaced. Having disassembled the old mixer, it is necessary clean fitting  from the remains of paint and old winding.

Ways to install yourself

The location of the product will depend on its installation. They can be built in or mounted on a wall. In the first case, mixers are built directly into the wall or mounted on the bathtub. They can also be referred to products placed on a shelf or rack.

On the rack it will be possible to fix, if to lead pipes through the floor or there is free space in the bathroom. Faucets rack-type  - The most expensive for today. They are distinguished by a huge choice of performance: from baroque to modern.

Wall Mounting  is made with the adjacent location of the bath and washbasin. A lot of time in this case, the placement of the mixer will not go away. In addition, such an installation allows you to replace and dismantle the crane at any time.

When the mixer is embedded in the wall, the interior becomes more attractive, but the connecting hoses will not be available.

On the shelf of the sink and the side of the bathroom installation also limits access to supply hoses and connections, however, it will be possible to install compact mixers.

Assembling the product

Basically, they are sold in disassembled condition, so you must always check the purchase of completeness. All items are packed in cellophane. Inside the box should be the following the details:

During assembly, it may be necessary to tighten the nuts. For these purposes, the key is suitable. The mixer has a nickel-plated surface, which is easily damaged, so it is better to wrap the sponge keys in several layers of electrical tape. After all, you need to understand that the damaged parts are difficult to change.

Mixer installation procedure in the bathroom

First you should do screwing eccentrics. Between the inlet fittings you need to leave a center distance of 150 mm. If there is an error, use the transient eccentrics. The sealing material is wound on their threads, after which they are screwed into the fittings.

Then you need to fasten the body of the product, checking for horizontal. To disguise the place of connection to the water main, it is necessary to install decorative cups. After mounting the mixer, insert gaskets. Thus, it will be possible to prevent water leakage. Then you can go to the final installation of the mixer. Tighten all nuts for a stronger connection.

To verify the correct installation, it is necessary to supply water to the pipeline, not only cold, but also hot. If there is a leak, you will have to tighten the nuts a little more. It is desirable to see video, as you can install a mixer by yourself.

Next stage - fastening of a gander. It is through it and will leave the water. It is placed underneath the product, and is tightened with a nut, and on top - the hose and watering can be fixed. The shower hose is mounted to the fixture with a standard nut. But to connect it with a watering can use a tapered fastener. Do not forget to install the gasket beforehand.

Then you need to choose place for a watering can holder. It is fixed with bracket screws. But for this, first a hole is drilled in the wall. This completes the process of installing the mixer with your own hands. To visually assess the entire installation process, you must necessarily watch the video.

How to install the mixer on a shelf or rack

In this case, you need to bring water to the device across the floor. The installation site can be located not only at the same height with the floor, but also slightly higher. The latter option is more convenient, since it allows the pedestal to be equipped with a removable panel to replace the coupling and fastening.

Mounting the mixer on the stand in the main points repeats the procedure for placing the wall unit: the eccentrics are screwed into the pipe ends, set at the required distance, and then the fastening elements of the connecting hoses fixed to the block are wound.

Products on the shelf, as well as placed on the rack, it is customary to use for elite interior. They differ only in that the devices placed on the rack with the bathroom create the kit, and the devices for mounting on the shelf are produced in an arbitrary design. Of these devices water flows cascade, therefore, the shelf will give different shapes.

The mixer itself is placed on a pedestal or in a niche, and sometimes on a separate shelf of tiles, solid stone and glass. Water is supplied with flexible hoses, and the installation of a spout, a shower head and faucets is allowed in different places.

Fastening will require an accurate calculation of the required length of the hoses to connect all the parts. In general, the installation of such a product resembles installation mortise mixer. With the shelf work very carefully. For a good example, it's better to watch a video on how to properly install a mixer.

The complex of works on the repair of the bathroom necessarily includes such a procedure as the installation of a mixer. The installation of a faucet in the bathroom with your own hands is a very fascinating process, the way of which differs depending on whether you need to replace the old mixer with a new one, or install it from scratch.

We will try to consider how each of the ways is carried out by submitting recommendations in the form of instructions.

How to choose a mixer

Before you connect the faucet in the bathroom, of course, you will need to purchase a good mixer model.

What are the characteristics of a quality and worthy purchase mixer:

  • Product specifications, such as the dimensions of a bathroom faucet, are also quite important.  First, the model must match the installation site.
      After all, for example, built-in mixer on the side of the tank  not suitable for wall mounting, and vice versa. Also, see how well the mixer's working parts fit - the length of the nozzle, the shower hose, whether there are any accessories for installing the shower head on the wall, etc.

How to dismantle an old mixer

After you have decided how to choose a bathroom faucet  and bought a suitable model, you can connect the mixer in the bathroom, which usually begins with the dismantling of the old mixer, of course, provided it is available.

The process is as follows:

  1. The first thing to do is to shut off the water supply to the bathroom.
  2. Armed with a wrench, drain the remaining water from the tap and unscrew the mixer from the wall neatly, without damaging the thread on the stationary fitting on the wall connected to the water pipe.
  3. Purify the thread of the fitting from the remnants of the old winding.

How to install a new mixer

Before installing the mixer in the bathroom, it is necessary first to assemble it, as they are sold in disassembled form, and when purchasing the product, you should carefully check the kit for completeness of the complete set of parts:

  • the main unit;
  • gander;
  • shower hose;
  • shower head;
  • eccentrics;
  • gaskets;
  • decorative plafonds.

The completeness of the mixer is described in the instructions accompanying it. The parts should be packaged in cellophane and tissue bags.

It is also necessary to check the integrity of the threads on the eccentrics and nuts.

Thematic video will make it possible to understand more clearly how the mixer is assembled.

As already mentioned, the instructions for assembling the mixer are attached to the kit.

Mounting the mixer in the bathroom is done by means of eccentrics. After winding eccentrics, screw them to the fittings on water pipesah, located in the wall. The use of eccentrics allows the distance between pipes to be shifted to the required value (at an appropriate distance from the mixer).

As a rule, the distance between the inputs is 150 mm. If the distance between the fittings does not correspond to this value, with the help of eccentrics the situation can be corrected. The compliance of the eccentrics to the horizontal position is checked by the building level.

After the installation of the eccentrics is completed, the main unit is tried on and tried to screw it. If each side of the block is screwed without any problems, it means that the eccentrics are mounted correctly.

Then screw the block itself, and do not use any additional winding materials. A sufficiently dense shrinkage is quite achievable by those gaskets that are present inside the clamping nuts. Their (nuts) should be slightly tightened with a key.

If the mixer has not been assembled to this point, then it is necessary to assemble it now.

The use of a wrench or a wrench for assembling and installing a mixer is the exception rather than the need. You need to use it with all caution, pulling lightly, effortlessly.

Further, the cranes are opened on the main roads and the mixer is checked for its operability. When a leak or a drop is detected at the joints, the nuts are twisted slightly with a key.

How to install a mixer on a new wall

How to put a mixer in the bathroom instead of the old, we dismantled. Now consider the case when it is necessary to remove the pipelines to the location of the future mixer and prepare them for installation of the device, that is, if all work is done completely from scratch.

The most used option here is plastic or metal-plastic pipes. They are connected to the main pipeline, it is desirable to install a ball shut-off valve, and withdraw to the installation site of the mixer, attaching them to the wall with special clamps.

The height of the mixer above the bathtub is usually 30 cm, this is where the ends of the pipes are taken to, to which the fittings are further attached for connection to the mixer.

To output the fittings for the installation of the mixer, several parameters must be observed:

  • Between the centers of the two fittings the distance should be 150 mm, and relative to each other they should be located on the same horizontal line.
  • The end of the fitting must be flush with the plane of the wall after installation of the liner.
  • The fittings should be parallel to each other when viewed from above, and the height of the mixer installation above the bathroom (and, accordingly, the fittings) should be acceptable and be about 30 cm.

In this article, we explained in detail how to replace and how to mount a mixer in the bathroom. We hope that our advice will make it possible to cope with the task without problems and with the least cost.

Before installing the mixer in the bathroom with your own hands, you need to take into account a number of points that concern both the choice of its model and the features of the installation. The price classification is also very diverse. On sale you can see how conventional faucets, designed for mass consumers, and elite, worth several hundred dollars. In order to choose the right mixer for the bathroom, you need to decide on what we will choose it from. That is, in the beginning it is necessary to find out which mixers are, and then it becomes clear what kind of us is needed.

Mixer selection by design type

two-ventilated mixers

By type of construction, bathroom faucets are two-ventilated and single-lever, as well as thermostatic.

Everyone is familiar and familiar from the very childhood of a two-valve mixer with a long spout and shower turning into the sink and into the tub.

Their advantage is in the cost, and the disadvantage is in the quickly failing rubber gaskets installed in the two turning crane-boxes.

single-lever mixers

Single-lever faucets - this is generally a more modern option. And the force of the head, and the temperature of the water in such mixers is regulated by only one lever. Undoubtedly, it is very simple, convenient and hygienic.

In a single-lever mixer there is no need for regular replacement of rubber gaskets, as for a two-valve, but there is a cartridge (ball or ceramic), due to which the service life of the mixer increases on average by 10-15 years. By price single-lever mixers  somewhat more expensive than the two-valve, but also last longer, and in use they are much more convenient and quicker. So, with one hand you can instantly open and close the water, move it to the right and left to adjust its temperature, and up and down - pressure. If you chose to use a single lever mixer, we advise you not to save it, but to buy it at a price that is slightly higher than the minimum, as in the cheapest models the quality of the cartridges is poor, and replacing them is very problematic - it's easier to buy a new mixer. In more expensive models, the cartridges are of high quality and durable.

thermostatic mixers

In thermostatic mixers, there is generally no need to rotate the valves (two-valve mixers) or to regulate the temperature of the water by moving the lever (single-lever mixers), since the required temperature is set immediately and only once, then it is stored until it is reinstalled. Built-in safety system prevents the risk of scalding or boiling water cold water. Since water is supplied to the user immediately in a warm state, thermostatic mixer a special mixing element that is controlled by a cartridge containing a wax or consisting of a whole set of bimetallic plates.

Mixer selection by installation method

By the way of installation, the bathroom faucets are divided into those that are mounted directly on the wall and on the built-in ones that are located on the side of the bath or in the wall, and there are also mixers located on a separate rack or on a shelf.

But how to choose a bathroom faucet by type of installation? With built-in mixers in the side, everything is simple. Most often they are already sold mounted in it. But this is the case with expensive baths, mostly hydromassage. You can buy a regular, "empty" bath and independently mount a mixer into its board, having made the appropriate diameter of the hole where necessary (considering the location of water pipes).

There are also faucets on a stand-alone rack, these are usually installed in the large bathrooms of expensive houses, near the chic "old-fashioned" baths on the legs. Such a mixer is itself a work of art.

In modern variants it is a kit sold together, made in a single color and stylistic solution. The rack with the mixer located on it is usually installed in the immediate vicinity of the bath. This type of installation should be provided immediately, at the initial design level of the house, as water should be fed to the rack with a mixer from under the floor.

Before you decide to install a mixer on the shelf, you need to decide whether you really need it, because it's just a design refinement, a decorative move that requires huge cash costs. After all, the cost of the mixers, specially designed for installation on the shelf, and their installation will cost you at least twice as much as when choosing a standard installation.

As a rule, cascade mixers are placed on the shelf.

The shelf itself may not be a shelf in the usual sense, but a kind of niche or podium around the bath, or a shelf lined with stone or tiles.

The material from which the most durable and quality stainless mixers are made is brass, which is usually coated with a chrome plated coating.

Installing the mixer in the bathroom with your own hands

Installation of the mixer in the bathroom is made after the walls are laid and brought to the installation site of the pipe mixer, that is, the water supply system is ready for operation. All finishing works should be completed by this moment. We will need the following tools and accessories: mixer, wrench, punch, sealing material and fasteners.

Before starting work, it is necessary to cut off the water pipe and dismantle the old mixer (if it is available), and also check the entire structure and especially the pipes for integrity. Then, with the help of a swivel wrench, screw the branch pipes to the pipe outlets, and to them, using sealing material, eccentrics, on which it is necessary to put on decorative cover plates so that they completely overlap the pipe junctions to the wall. The pipes themselves should be located strictly horizontally, this is checked using a small building level.

Then they are carefully set to them by the method of screwing with the adjustable wrench and the mixer itself.

An important detail with regard to nakidnyh nuts is the moment that they need to be twisted gradually and in turn, in order, if possible, to prevent the possible skewing of the entire structure (which is absolutely unacceptable). Check whether the installation is carried out smoothly or not, possibly with the help of a building level. Then the spout and shower hose are screwed to the mixer.

Now we open the water supply, thus checking the quality and reliability of the mixer installation, as well as the tightness of all the connections made by us in the process of work.

All details of the installation can be read in detail in the instructions accompanying the mixer.

Also we are happy to provide you with a detailed video, where you can visually see all the nuances of its installation.

With proper care and proper installation, a quality bathroom faucet will serve you for many years.

Sometimes it seems that the installation of the faucet in the bathroom can only be done by professionals. Especially if this issue appeared before an inexperienced master. Everything looks complicated, incomprehensible and even more frightening. But, you can handle this task yourself, only a little understanding of the subtleties of the process. Moreover, the prospect of ordering this service to specialists and paying quite a lot of money is completely unattractive.

The need to install a mixer in the bathroom can arise for various reasons - due to full-scale repair, breakdown of the old familiar unit or just wanted to change the boring model.

If this is one of the last two options, then it will be quite easy to cope with the question. The main thing is to calmly deal with the device, installation features and the most common mistakes.

Installing a new faucet with a shower for the shower on the wall, you need to focus on the convenience of the owner. The height of the anchorage for a watering can depends on the individual needs of a particular person

The first thing you need to do is buy a new mixer or, as it is often called users, a tap. After all, now almost no one puts a separate tap for cold and separate - for hot water. It is convenient for the consumer to use a mixer - it's practical and beautiful, thanks to the variety of offers on the market.

Mixers: they are so different ...

Manufacturers offer a variety of models, radically different in price. For the beginning it is necessary to decide which model is needed. Depending on how the mixer will be installed, they are all divided into three types:

  • with a horizontal installation, when the installation on a horizontal surface is to be carried out;
  • with vertical - when the installation will occur in the vertical plane;
  • built-in, when all parts are mounted in the wall.

Horizontally oriented mixers are supposed to be mounted on the side of a bath or a sink. Vertical - on the wall. Embedded ones are a very rare phenomenon for our consumers. It is difficult, very expensive, impractical for standard apartments and requires the participation of professionals.

If the size of the room allows, it is convenient to install a washbasin also by installing a separate faucet

Often in the bathroom is used at least two taps - separately for bathing and washbasin. Here you have to choose the option that is suitable for a particular room. If full-scale repairs are not planned with re-planning, then it will remain to buy a new type of crane, like the old one installed.

Depending on the internal device, the mixers are divided into the following types:

  • two valves;
  • lever;
  • thermostats;
  • non-contact.

The most beloved option for many customers is the two-valve version. Perhaps it is difficult to find an adult who does not understand what is at stake. This type of mixer has two valves, corresponding, respectively, for hot and cold water. Rubber gaskets or ceramic discs are used as seals.

The second option is more preferable - it has a longer service life. But, when hard water with a lot of impurities flows from the pipes, and individual cleaning filters are not installed in the apartment or house, it is more appropriate to choose a variant with rubber gaskets.

Two valve models are better to choose with ceramic discs. This will significantly extend the service life without repair

The lever-type mixer has only one tool for adjusting the water temperature - the lever. The process of mixing water occurs by turning the lever in one direction or the other. Because of the convenience of using such models and moderate cost, the demand for them is steadily growing. As for the installation, it is also not very complicated.

A valve that regulates the temperature with one lever is more convenient than a valve. Do not need to rotate the valves for a long time - turned slightly aside and everything turned out to be adjusted

A more expensive option is a thermostat mixer. It does not require the constant participation of a person in adjustment and adjustment. It is enough to set the desired temperature of water once.

This type of crane is absolutely not suitable, if in the house or area often turn off hot water - the thermostat will block the cold. So, having come in the evening from work and wanting to wash your hands, you can get a lot of unpleasant emotions and spend a lot of obscene expressions. Although, it is a very convenient option for swimming - when sharp changes in water temperature and you need to constantly adjust the desired, the thermostat will become a real find.

Mixers-thermostats are convenient if the family has a curious child - you do not have to worry that he accidentally gets burned hot water

The non-contact type of mixer is most often chosen for installation in public places. For domestic use it is taken in rare cases - when it is the embodiment of an original design idea or just interesting to try something new in your bathroom.

The non-contact faucet is especially popular in Western countries, because it helps to save water

Materials used for the manufacture of cranes

If you focus on the price range, then the cheapest models are made of an alloy of aluminum and silicon - silumin. They are much lighter in weight and have a short warranty. It is rare that such a mixer will be used much longer than this time.

More expensive variants are made of a multi-component copper-brass alloy. They immediately give an impressive look and weight, which greatly exceeds the weight of their brethren from silumin.

When choosing a mixer, it is better to avoid those models in the coating of which nickel was used. This can cause health problems. It is good to choose options with chrome plated. Moreover, they favorably differ in coloring and imitation of various metals.

The most expensive mixers are design. They are, as a rule, very original and capable of giving a special mood to the interior of the bathroom. It is this quality that significantly affects the final value, which can reach fantastic sizes. Choosing this option, you can be sure that none of your friends are not installed in the bathroom is exactly the same faucet.

As for the variety of models, for a washbasin in a bathroom it is better to choose not only a beautiful option, but also a convenient one. It should be noted that in the process of washing hands and washing it was convenient to place palms under a stream of water.

Here, the original low models with a small crane lose an order of magnitude - after all, it's quite inconvenient with such a tap to perform daily hygienic procedures. The faucet without tap is also not the best option  for a washbasin, and for bathing procedures can be just right.

Step-by-step installation of the mixer with your own hands

Deciding on an independent installation of the crane, you must first buy it, then prepare the necessary tools and, unpacking the box with a new mixer, you can proceed with the installation process. But first, let's talk a little more about the mixer device used for the bathroom.

Knowing the crane's device is useful if something breaks down and you have to deal with self-repair

A typical valve valve, as a rule, consists of two valves that control the supply of hot and cold water  into the mixing chamber. To ensure their operation, parts such as a lock washer, special sealant - stuffing box, gaskets, bush, coupling with guides, saddle are used. All this is in the already assembled state, which does not require additional attention when installing a new mixer.

Components of the faucet for the bathroom

Choosing the best option for your bathroom, you have to consider the contents of the box - to open all the bags and boxes in the package with the purchased model. If it is a bath mixer, then in the bag you can find a shower head, a flexible hose for it and additional fastening  - the rod-holder. It should be mounted on the wall, the side of the bath or on the body of the crane to hold the watering can.

Also, a faucet with valves or a lever, which must be connected with the rest of the parts according to the instructions. In the kit there is necessarily a set of gaskets, nuts, decorative reflectors on the wall, transitional eccentric bushings and a spout for the crane. Having considered all the components, it is not necessary to learn from what parts they are assembled. It is enough to tighten everything by following the instructions supplied by the manufacturer in the kit.

Everything that is inside of the assembled mixer, should not be touched. It is enough to screw all the details to get a one-piece crane, as in the instruction (+)

What to look for

Before installing the mixer, do not ignore the generally accepted norms. So, if the faucet is installed for simultaneous maintenance of the bath and the washstand, then, according to standards, the height of the installation should be at least 1 m from the floor level. Depending on the functions performed, the height will be different:

  • for the mixer serving the bath, this rate is 80 cm from the tile laid on the floor;
  • for a washstand - 20 cm from the side of the washbasin;
  • if the mixer is intended for a shower, then it should be mounted at least 120 cm from the floor.

Another point that requires attention is the location of the crane. Depending on it, the main installation process will differ. If it's just a replacement of an old crane with a new one, you first need to remove the old one. In the event that the repair is to be completed with a full replacement of old water pipes with new ones, you need to think carefully about where the plumbing will be installed in order to provide for installation of the water rods in the appropriate places.

To output the fittings to which the mixer will be attached, it is necessary to carefully calculate the distance between the pipes of cold and hot water - exactly 15 cm. It is important that they are strictly horizontal in relation to each other. Also, the fittings must not be too long - they must end on the same level with the bathroom lining material or be a couple of mm smaller.

Having completed the work on the output of the fittings, it is possible to proceed with the standard installation of mixers.

If you plan to install an exclusive model, then you need to carefully study the manufacturer's instructions - there will be their own specifics (+)

Tools required for installation

Before starting the installation, it is best to prepare all the tools and parts that may be useful. First, the box itself with a mixer and all its components.

Secondly, pliers, construction level, tape measure, adjustable wrench, car keys can be useful.

Thirdly, a linen towel and a Unipack paste / silicone or a special sealing foil tape.

Fourth, a soft cloth / small towel, paper napkins / toilet paper.

All these components will be useful during the installation process. It would be good to use tools without teeth, but if there are none, then to not scratch the top cover of devices and its details, they should be laid with a cloth or a towel. This technique will help protect against external mechanical damage, which is especially true for home masters, who first put a mixer.

It is convenient to prepare all the tools for installation in advance, than then constantly interrupt and go around searching for the right part

The paper is useful in order to after all the installation thoroughly wipe and check whether something is leaking. If yes, then everything must be disassembled and reassembled, not forgetting tightly fasten each joint and put sealing gaskets to each nut.

How to install a faucet on a wall

The most important in self-installation cranes - do not tighten the nuts, so that nothing will burst and not break. After all, buying new parts for a new mixer is extremely unpleasant and insulting. Therefore, do not rush and tighten everything tightly - it is better then to twist a little more tightly than to run to the sanitary ware shop.

If something snaps and breaks - do not be upset. You can always get a spare part

Vertical mixers are characterized by mounting directly to the wall, from which water pipes with cold and hot water come out. Ideally, the distance between the algae should be at least 15 cm, but almost always there can be found a persistent discrepancy. To correct this shortcoming, special bushings-eccentric adapters are designed. These are slightly curved details that have a thread on both sides.

It happens that the lengths of eccentrics included with the mixer are not enough. In this case, you need to buy separately these longer parts.

First of all, before starting the installation, it is necessary to close the taps on pipes with hot and cold water, using the hands or keys of suitable size for this purpose - it all depends on which cranes are in a particular room.

Then, making sure that the water does not flow, you can remove the old mixer. To do this, use the prepared tools, spinning the nuts and taking turns removing all the old parts. Having reached the water pipes, some masters leave the old eccentrics without changing them. But, they always check the suitability for further use.

Remove the old faucet carefully so as not to damage the tiles on the wall and the enamel of the bath itself

Before you screw in the eccentric bushings, you should gently wind the seal - the hood on the thread. Then apply a thin layer of silicone or Unipack paste on it. After screwing these parts, you need to check with the level their horizontal position relative to each other and, with the help of a tape measure, the distance between them.

If everything is in order, then you can proceed with further assembly. Now it is necessary to wind decorative cups-reflectors, closing holes in the wall. After that, it is possible to connect the inlet connections of the mixer with the eccentric bushings using the union nuts supplied in the kit. Nuts must always be fitted with a gasket.

All carefully twisting, you can proceed to the connection of a spout and a flexible shower hose, to which, by laying the gasket, screw the watering can with a nut.

Now we have to check whether everything is well established and there are no leaks. It is necessary to open the cranes responsible for the supply of water to the apartment and include just that installed mixer. To check it is better at first with a small pressure, then to increase capacity of a jet up to the stop. If all is well, then be sure to switch the water into the shower hose and check how this part of the system works.

Eccentrics are of different lengths. Short can be replaced by a longer one, and a very long one can be shortened by cutting off excess

In case there are no leaks, you can congratulate yourself on the first independent, and most importantly - the correct installation. If there is a leak, it is necessary to carefully see where exactly this happens, then again close the water, remove everything that has been installed, and carefully repeat the process anew.

It is important to carefully inspect each gasket and nut - perhaps some fastening was strongly tightened, which caused damage to one of the parts. Pakluk on the eccentric is also to be rewound.

Mounting mixer horizontal type

Having figured out how to independently install a vertical mixer in the bathroom, consider the option of horizontal mounting. It differs from the previous one in that it is installed on the wall / side of the bath or washbasin, where there are special holes for the mixer.

Sometimes there are no such holes, but the width of the sides allows for this type of installation. Here it is necessary to work - to cut holes on the shelf of the bath for the crane yourself.

Such work should be done very carefully, so as not to damage the coating of the container. Home craftsmen have managed to cut holes not only in acrylic, but also in steel and cast iron baths without damaging the enamel. The main convenience of such a mixer is that the location of water pipes can be at any distance. This will not prevent the installed model of the crane from being installed - it must be connected using flexible hoses or copper pipes.

The vertical type of the faucet is most often installed separately on the sink in the bathroom - it is more convenient and aesthetic than using one faucet and bath mixer (+)

By screwing the horizontal mixer in the special openings of the plumbing, it must be additionally secured with a clamping washer with a gasket. Flexible hoses must first be threaded into the hole on which the crane will be installed. Now the hoses must be connected to water pipes with cold and hot water, using as a seal a patch or a special tapes tape.

After these manipulations it remains to check the quality of their work - open the faucets that block the flow of water into the apartment and turn on the mixer. If nothing happens anywhere - the tap is set correctly. Otherwise, you need to disassemble everything and do all the work again.

When the installation is completed, it is necessary to check the tap, turning it on at full power

After finding out the basic nuances of installing the mixer in the bathroom, you can safely start an independent replacement. The most difficult thing is to do everything consistently and carefully, so as not to damage the details by applying excessive force. Also, do not forget about the most important in the installation process - the overlapping of water pipes, otherwise you can flood your neighbors from the bottom. Own-installed mixer will take no more than 2 hours of personal time and will save on the service of plumbing.
