Many owners of private houses want to place a heating installation in their apartments. Such a hearth allows you not only to make the atmosphere as cozy and comfortable as possible, but also to acquire a source that brings warmth.

Another question that arises in this case is what is better: a stove or a fireplace? It is impossible to find a definite answer to this question, since both units have their own exceptional features and advantages. However, it is possible to make a choice. To do this, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the materials in this article and view photos of ready-made installations.

Fireplace for a private home

A fireplace is an original part of any interior, symbolizing warmth and comfort. This installation allows you to create a positive, favorable and warm atmosphere in the house. The advantages include the unique opportunity to make such a heating unit with your own hands.

When choosing such a model, you should first decide on its main function and thereby decide whether a stove or a fireplace is better:

  • Open. Mainly serves a decorative function. Such devices have an original and excellent appearance. This is primarily due to the open hearth. This allows you to contemplate the fire from any angle and from a convenient angle. The disadvantages include low efficiency. The design, due to the open type of the hearth, warms up very slowly and unevenly, which does not allow for good and complete heating of the house:
  • Closed. It has a more classic and familiar appearance to the eye. The hearth is closed on three or four sides. Cast iron, metal or fire-resistant glass can be used as partitions. Such units are specially designed for heating and have a fairly high efficiency, quickly warm up and distribute heat evenly throughout all apartments.

Important: if you decide to assemble a fireplace intended for heating, pay special attention to its power and location. Place it in the largest, airy, central room of the house. The best fireplaces for your home are those whose size and power matches the area of all the rooms you want to heat.

You can learn more about the benefits of fireplaces by watching the video in this article.

Selection of combustion chamber

In addition to the external features of open and closed fires, there are a number of secondary, but no less important, which must also be taken into account when choosing a model. This will help you answer the question: which is better, fireplace or stove?

  1. Closed structures are more economical. This is due to the long process of burning logs. The completely enclosed design of the hearth allows the wood to burn well and slowly and heat the rooms;
  2. The price of fuel from open fires is quite high, since an open base with air constantly circulating and entering it contributes to the rapid burning of logs and coals;
  3. Pay attention to the way the duct is constructed. The quality of heating and the rate of removal of combustion products and carbon dioxide depend on how correctly the chimney is positioned.

Important: compared to open models, closed ones have a higher cost due to their functionality and useful properties. However, much depends on the size of the selected installation, its location, materials of manufacture and power.

Advice: for the full and high-quality operation of such a structure, it is necessary to equip a chimney and pre-seal the inside of the installation with special heat-inertial materials, which can be used as soapstone.

Features of installation and assembly

In order for the structure to be installed according to all the rules and to function properly, it is necessary to adhere to a number of simple requirements. Instructions for use and installation:

  1. If you bought a unit with a fully or partially open combustion chamber, choose a place as far away as possible from various drafts, window and door openings. This placement is the safest for both the house and the residents living in it;
  2. Choose a spacious room with good ventilation. This will make the air flow regular and allow the flame to burn well;
  3. If the structure is adjacent to the wall, it must first be sealed and insulated with special materials. It is equally important to cover the floor covering with protective compounds and materials, at a distance of one meter on all sides of the heating installation;
  4. Do not install the structure near load-bearing walls of the house. With this arrangement, all the heat will go exclusively into the walls, and the fireplace will not heat the house;
  5. If the weight of the fireplace together with the hearth has a total mass of more than 300 kilograms, it becomes necessary to install an additional foundation.

Stove for a private home

If you don’t know which is better - a stove or a fireplace, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the main features of a stove heating unit. A stove, unlike a fireplace, is designed exclusively for heating a room. This option is characterized by very high power, functionality and productive work.

As a rule, furnaces have a fairly large mass. That is why it is necessary to begin the design and installation of such a model at the stage of building a house. You will also need to build an additional foundation so that the floor covering can support the weight of the unit.

Important: when carrying out and drawing up a project, pay special attention to the size, power and location of the furnace. It is best to entrust the construction and development of the project to a professional craftsman who can take into account all the design features of the house itself.

Advice: for uniform and quick heating of all apartments, it is best to place the installation in the largest and most spacious room. Give preference to an island location.

Interesting to know: a properly designed and installed stove can have smaller overall dimensions than a fireplace and at the same time have up to five times more efficiency!

Classification of furnaces

These heating installations are divided into the following types:

  • Metal. They are the most functional. As a rule, they include not only a heating function, but also a built-in hob. Models are intended for heating and cooking. Some models may have an oven. Installation of such a design is an alternative for houses located in areas with constant interruptions in gas and electricity;
  • Stone. Used exclusively for heating. Able to retain heat for 9-13 hours. They are distinguished by their efficiency in terms of firewood consumption and are easy to install and decorate.

Important: enamel or heat-resistant paint is used as a finishing material for both options. Dark shades are more popular due to less noticeable darkening that occurs as a result of contact of the material with an open flame.

Combined stove and fireplace

When choosing the optimal and most suitable model, very often people ask the question: what is better: a fireplace or a fireplace stove?

Models such as fireplace stoves are universal and combine all the positive qualities and properties of both installations. Their advantages and features include:

  1. Good heat retention like classic stove units;
  2. Fast and even heating like fireplaces;
  3. The partially open combustion chamber allows you to enjoy the impeccable view of the burning and bright flame;
  4. The design features the presence of two combustion chambers at once, one of which is closed with special fire-resistant transparent glass. The second, in turn, is made of cast iron or steel.

Powerful stove with main and additional combustion chamber and enamel. You can also cook food on combined models, but the location of such surfaces is quite inconvenient.

What to choose?

After familiarizing yourself in detail with all the features, advantages and disadvantages of each device, you will be able to make the right choice, guaranteed.

Criterias of choice:

  • Decide on the main functionality and purpose. What exactly will you need it for (decorating, heating, cooking);
  • Classic stove units or fireplaces with completely closed combustion chambers are perfect for heating;
  • A functional oven with a hob is suitable for cooking;
  • The decorative function is perfectly performed by classic fireplaces with an open firebox;
  • Much depends on the stage of construction of the house. If it is under construction, you can choose any model and type of device;
  • Furnaces are installed taking into account the construction of an additional foundation and design occurs during the construction stage;
  • If the house is already ready and renovated, it is preferable to buy a fireplace;
  • Pay attention to fire safety. This applies both to sealing the internal space of the unit and to the installation of the chimney.

It is impossible to give an exact answer as to whether a stove or a fireplace is better. Each device has its own positive and negative properties and characteristics. First of all, when choosing, you need to focus on the individual characteristics of the room and the compliance of the model with the presented requirements on your part.

Everyone wants the house to be warm and cozy in any, even the harshest winter, to use as little firewood as possible, and also to be beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Some people immediately go shopping, while others start collecting information on the Internet. In any store, both stoves and stove-fireplaces are now widely represented, and this is where a fair question arises, which is better and what will be more effective. And most importantly, what is the difference?

Stoves, fireplaces or fireplace stoves, which is better for heating a country house?

Bake, heating device, in this case we will consider options that run on wood. Based on the type of heating and functionality, stoves can be divided into four large groups: conventional heating stoves, convection heating stoves, stoves for connection to a water heating system, and heating and cooking stoves. Stoves can be either cast iron or steel. Nowadays, stoves with cast iron fireboxes and steel bodies are also widely represented. There are many models that have a door with fireproof glass, but unlike a fireplace, the glass in stoves is not so large and is usually flat in shape.

Stoves, unlike fireplaces, are smaller in size, but this in no way means that there will be less heat. Furnaces not only take up little space, but most of them are lightweight, which very often is also important. In terms of heating, the stove can heat both the room in which it is installed and the entire house. After all, there are models that allow you to distribute heat throughout the house. And in this case, you will have one single stove to heat your entire house. There are two types of heat distribution throughout the house: a water heating system is designed and radiators are installed in all rooms. The second option is the distribution of air heating from convection ovens. In this case, your home will be heated by hot air flows.

Heating and cooking stoves very convenient for small houses or studios. After all, such stoves combine two functions at once: an efficient heating stove and a full-fledged wood-burning stove. There are also now a large number of heating and cooking stoves with the ability to connect water heating radiators. In terms of finishing, stoves can be covered with heat-resistant paint, usually black, or covered with enamel, the enamel can be of different colors, the most popular are glossy black, burgundy or beige enamel.

Stove-fireplace, As the name itself suggests, it is a heating device that combines all the functions of a heating stove and the design of a fireplace. The main difference between a fireplace stove and a stove is the door with a large viewing glass. The glass in such fireplaces can have different shapes; there are fireplaces with two or three panoramic glasses. Also, a fireplace stove has larger dimensions than a stove; according to the installation option, fireplaces can be wall-mounted, corner-mounted or universal wall-corner. Like a stove, a fireplace stove can only heat the room in which it is installed, or you can distribute water throughout the house, not air, but water. In appearance, this is a full-fledged fireplace, the difference from a classic fireplace is that a classic fireplace consists of a fireplace insert and decorative cladding, while a fireplace stove is a solid structure that does not require additional refining. The exterior finish of the fireplace stove can be covered with heat-resistant enamel or lined with ceramic tiles. Moreover, there is a very wide selection of ceramic colors.

Classic fireplace. As mentioned above, such fireplaces consist of a fireplace insert and decorative cladding. The fireplace, this is already a fundamental structure, has large dimensions and is installed in spacious rooms; a foundation for the fireplace is required. Moreover, the foundation must be poured separately from the main foundation of the house. And this is a very important question; people often ask why it is not recommended to pour a foundation for a fireplace at the same time as the foundation for a house. Any house shrinks, and the foundation under the house can “walk,” which will lead to misalignment of your fireplace.

Fireplace mantels are sold unassembled, and to install the fireplace, you will need the services of a professional in any case. As for heating, heating can be diverted from any fireplace insert to the neighboring rooms of your home. Based on the material used, fireplace inserts can be made of cast iron or steel. Steel fireboxes must be lined with fireproof material inside to protect the firebox from burnout. For lining, fireclay, vermiculite, or refractory ceramics are most often used. Fireplace linings can be made of artificial or natural stone. Many fireplace mantel models are decorated with natural wood beams.

Or it is difficult to use a metal stove as the main heating device even in a small house, because you will have to add firewood all the time, day and night, which is extremely inconvenient, and not every firebox is designed for constant operation. However, a small fireplace or stove can be used to support the main heating system on particularly cold days, as well as quickly warm up the house during "off-season" visits. And of course, a wood-burning fireplace is needed to create comfort and a romantic atmosphere, without which a country home loses some of its charm.

So, what does the market offer and what parameters should you pay attention to when choosing a device?

Metal stoves, which today are often called potbelly stoves, are the cheapest option for a wood-burning fireplace. A Russian-made steel stove (brands Termofor, Vesuvius, Teplodar, Varvara, etc.) will cost 6–11 thousand rubles, and its weight will be less than 50 kg, thanks to which it will be possible to save on delivery and installation . Many potbelly stoves are equipped with burners, and some are equipped with convection devices (ventilated casings or overhead air channels) and a small viewing glass on the door, which, however, very quickly becomes overgrown with soot.

A potbelly stove is an acceptable option only for temporary housing. It is unlikely to decorate the interior (in this article we will not talk about exclusive models from foreign companies), and its firebox is so small that you have to add firewood almost every half hour.

The convection oven (“air heating boiler”) of the Butakov series (from 11 thousand rubles) is compact and looks quite modern. The design is equipped with a replaceable grate and a retractable ash drawer. Photo: Termofor

To heat a dacha, it is wiser to purchase a convection unit that costs 13–24 thousand rubles. depending on the size. The weight of such a device varies between 55–120 kg, the rated thermal power is 10–20 kW, and the firebox volume is 80–140 liters. Such devices are equipped with a blower damper and a damper on the outlet pipe, which allows you to regulate the combustion intensity. Large models can work on one load of firewood for up to 5 hours.

The most famous designs of such stoves are “Buleryan” (nowadays its copies “Breneran” and “Valerian” are produced; the latter differs from the original in the presence of a safety casing) and “Butakov”. The “Buleryan” design is, without a doubt, more successful, since in it the convection pipes heat up “more correctly” (in the upper part much more than in the lower part) and at the same time do not eat up the combustion space. But “Butakov” looks more aesthetically pleasing than its barrel-shaped counterpart.

The main disadvantage of long-burning stoves is the low-temperature operating mode (smoldering), in which a significant part of the fuel does not burn, but turns into gaseous substances that are released into the street through. The secondary combustion chamber and air injectors are ineffective: the temperature in the firebox is insufficient to ignite the flue gases.

The Brio pellet stove costs several times more than its wood-burning counterparts, but is capable of operating in automatic mode. Photo: EdilKamin

  1. Purchase firewood in advance so that it can dry in the woodpile for at least 3-4 months. It is unprofitable to burn with raw wood (a significant part of the energy is spent on evaporation of moisture), and in addition, a lot of smoke condensate is formed.
  2. Do not heat the stove with scraps of chipboard, OSB and similar boards, the combustion of which releases toxic substances; some of them may penetrate the premises, and the neighbors are unlikely to thank you for the stinking smoke over the village.
  3. If the stove is not designed for high-temperature combustion, you should, after heating it, close the air dampers by at least a third.
  4. Monitor the condition of the chimney. It must be cleaned at least once a year (when operating a long-burning stove - 2–3 times a year). A soot fire in a chimney threatens to ignite wooden structures located next to the chimney.
  5. Ash from the hearth can be used to fertilize the soil under garden plants, with the exception of coniferous trees and shrubs that prefer acidic soil.

Fireplace stoves (as well as fireplace stoves) are devices that are equipped with a door with glass and are completely ready for installation, that is, they do not require cladding. Our market offers products from Russian companies Vesuvius, Meta, EcoKamin, etc.; foreign Invicta, Supra, Tim Sistem, Vermont Castings, Jotul, ABX, etc. The fireplace stove weighs 60–100 kg, which means the device can be installed even on the second floor of a house with beamed floors.

If you have not yet decided on the installation location of the fireplace stove or the method of laying the chimney, pay attention to the fact that the design provides for two connection pipes: top and rear.

Oven AOT-06 (from 17 thousand rubles) (g), can be used for cooking. Photo: Breneran

The cost of stoves starts from 13 thousand rubles. and depends on the name of the manufacturer, dimensions, material and complexity of the design. Cast iron appliances are more expensive than steel ones (from 22 thousand rubles), are considered more resistant to high temperatures and, moreover, due to the significant (up to 10 mm) wall thickness, are able to accumulate heat. However, the vast majority of high-quality steel models (from 16 thousand rubles) are lined (finished from the inside) with fireclay blocks or plates of vermiculite (a refractory mineral), therefore they also have thermal inertia and are durable: their actual service life reaches 25 years.

Most modern fireplace stoves have a secondary combustion function; air is supplied to the flue gas combustion zone through the rear wall of the furnace (Emdip) or through injectors (Edil Kamin, La Nordica, Jotul). But to prevent additional heat from the combustion of flue gas from leaving the house through the chimney, it is necessary to provide special heat removal and heat storage elements (made of cast iron, ceramics, stone) in the lower part of the latter.

Small in size, the Ilot fireplace stove has a thermal power of 8 kW. The main features of the unit are a two-chamber firebox and a detachable decorative radiator casing. Photo: Invicta

On the market you can also find steel fireplace stoves without lining, which cost no more than 12 thousand rubles. and weigh 40–60 kg, which makes them easier to transport and install, however, the walls, made of thin (less than 3 mm) steel, can become deformed during intensive use, which leads to the destruction of welding seams.

Some or natural stone, such as soapstone. The price of this option is noticeable (from 10 thousand rubles), but the stove looks more elegant and does not emit unbearable heat, like a potbelly stove, since ceramics and potting stone absorb and dissipate part of the thermal radiation from the steel body.

For a spacious living room, it is worth purchasing a so-called fireplace set, that is, a metal firebox with a cladding made of artificial or natural stone selected by the seller. The market offers budget fireboxes from EcoKamin, Ferguss, Kratki, Nordflam, Invicta, etc., cladding from Bella Italia, Meta, etc. Compact fireplaces (the width of the finished structure is no more than 1 m, the depth is up to 70 cm) cost 27– 35 thousand rubles.

When installing a fireplace set, it is necessary to provide convection openings: inlets - in the lower part of the cladding, outlets - in the chimney casing.

The factory firebox is equipped with a door with glass and air dampers (a damper is usually an additional option). Without exception, all steel models are lined with fireclay or vermiculite blocks; most have the function of afterburning flue gases. The cleanliness of the door glass is ensured by its blowing through special gaps. Pyrolytic glass cleaning, a lifting door or a convection fan increase the price of the firebox by at least one and a half times.

Most of the facings are made in the classical style: an arched base, column walls decorated with capitals, a frieze lintel and a shelf. Photo: “Fireplaces of the XXI century”

Corner models are equipped with additional heat-resistant glass in the side wall, and therefore their price is 20–30% higher. Photo: Invicta

From a design point of view, a factory fireplace set is in no way inferior to its masonry counterpart, and in some ways even surpasses it. Budget frame modules are made from lightweight concrete painted in a noble gray or yellowish color, as well as from natural sandstone and shell rock - environmentally friendly and visually attractive materials. True, they are difficult to maintain (it is problematic to wash away contaminants from the porous surface) and almost do not accumulate heat - in one and a half to two hours the fireplace will completely cool down.

Even more expensive is a firebox with a convection casing and pipes for connecting air heating hoses. Photo: Invicta

The weight of the cladding is 80–150 kg, and the entire fireplace set (excluding the chimney, the load from which can be transferred to the wall) weighs about 200–250 kg. In a house with modern slab floors, it can be installed without a foundation, but if the floors are wooden beams, they will need to be locally reinforced with support pillars.

The structure can be assembled in one day: the cladding consists of only a few modules held together with silicate glue. It is somewhat more difficult to build a decorative casing for a metal chimney pipe: its frame is assembled from galvanized metal profiles, and the cladding is made of sheet materials on a gypsum or cement base (for example, gypsum fiber board 12.5 mm thick).

Choosing a chimney for stoves and fireplaces

A stove with a ceramic finish, ENBRA Olimp, costs 2–3 times more than conventional steel models, but it looks more impressive and is also capable of accumulating heat and releasing it within 2–3 hours after the end of the fire.

You should be mentally prepared for the fact that the chimney will most likely cost more than the hearth. Of course, for a budget stove there is no need to buy expensive ones - insulated steel sandwiches costing from 1800 to 4500 rubles are quite enough. for 1 linear m, depending on the diameter, steel grade and insulation thickness.

A firebox built into the wall will not be cheap, from 45 thousand rubles, but you can save on framing. All you need is fire-resistant drywall, steel profiles for the frame and ventilation grilles. Photo: EdilKamin

It is desirable that the smoke channel be made of stainless steel grades 308, 321 according to the AISI classification or their Russian analogues, and the thickness of its walls is at least 0.7 mm (alas, pipes with walls of 0.5 mm are more common). It is allowed to lay only the first 1–2 m of pipe without insulation; then it must be insulated with a layer of stone or ceramic wool at least 30 mm thick (optimally 40–50 mm). It is advisable to equip a long-burning furnace, during operation of which a lot of condensate is formed, with a chimney made of austenitic steels (AISI 430, 439), resistant to acids.

Methods for connecting the stove to the chimney

Attachment (to the top pipe) (a) Through a tee (to the rear pipe) (b). 1 - wooden wall; 2 - oven; 3 - single-circuit chimney; 4 - condensate collector; 5 - non-flammable thermal insulation (stone or ceramic wool); 6 - thermal insulating mat (ceramic wool + asbestos cardboard); 7 - gypsum fiber sheet; 8 - insulated double-circuit chimney

With all the abundance of heating devices, none of them has such an attractive force as fire. What to keep in mind when choosing a hearth for a summer house or country house?

FIREPLACE

A real fireplace will certainly decorate any country house. In addition, it is able to heat the room very quickly. But, as a rule, not for long. Therefore, it will not replace full heating. When choosing a specific fireplace model, it is first important to understand what the main purpose of its installation is.

You want it to provide warmth. Choose a fireplace with a closed firebox, and it is better if it is intended for frequent use. Fireboxes of this type have self-cleaning fireproof glass and high efficiency (which will allow you to use firewood economically).

The purpose is mainly decorative. Such fireplaces are also called interior fireplaces. Of course, a traditional open firebox (i.e. without glass) looks more impressive.

But keep in mind that open fires require constant supervision. Screens and grilles, of course, protect against a “fired” coal or a log thrown clumsily by a child’s hand, but it is impossible to give a complete guarantee. There are other nuances. The burning rate of wood in an open fireplace is practically not adjustable; it cannot be set to “slow” burning, so if you are determined to maintain a vigorous play of flames throughout the evening, you will need to stock up on a significant amount of dry firewood.

Fireplace-barbecue. Such fireplaces are usually open. And more often they are designed for installation outdoors (they are called outdoor fireplace grills). If you are going to cook kebabs in a regular fireplace, remember about the upcoming thorough cleaning of the firebox cavity and lining elements from the consequences of your cooking and be sure: if the firebox has glass, it will also suffer from splashes.

IMPORTANT

The fireplace should not be placed in the path of possible drafts. But at the same time, it needs access to oxygen to maintain combustion. Therefore, it is better if the room with a fireplace is at least 20 meters.

The wall against which the fireplace is installed must be made of fireproof materials, and communications must not pass through it. If the wall is external, it is thermally insulated using basalt wool covered with foil.

The weight of the assembled fireplace can be very large, so the floor under it must have sufficient strength with a mandatory concrete screed. If you are installing a fireplace in a wooden panel house (where the floors are also made of wood) and it is in contact with the wall, then you cannot make a separate foundation for the fireplace, since with separate movements of the foundations of the fireplace and the house, the displacement of the wall can cause the destruction of the fireplace itself. In this case, the wooden floor is strengthened using an iron profile.

BAKE

If you don’t plan to have any other heating in your dacha, you can’t do without a stove. Its main difference from a fireplace is that, although the stove takes a long time to heat up, it also retains heat for a long time.

Building a real stone stove is a complex and responsible task, and you still need to find good craftsmen. It is much more convenient and easier to purchase its younger sister - a household metal stove.

When choosing a model, consider the basic requirements for the stove:

1. Efficiency of at least 75 - 85% (see instructions) - otherwise you will go broke on firewood;

2. fire safety (see relevant certificate).

Also make sure that you can fit the chosen model into the desired room, taking into account the recommended parameters of the chimney and the distance to the wall.

IMPORTANT

The floor under the stove should not collapse. This means that it is necessary to prepare a foundation or concrete floors of sufficient strength, and a chimney - according to the rules and in accordance with the requirements of the specific firebox chosen.

The stove should be in the center of the house. In a house with a veranda, it is installed so that its “face” faces the veranda, and the back and side walls are located between the internal partitions.

What is a fireplace stove

This, as the name suggests, is something between a household metal stove and a fireplace with a closed firebox. This design allows you to combine the advantages of a stove (holds heat well) and a fireplace (quickly heats the room). And if you choose the appropriate cladding, it will not be inferior to the fireplace in beauty.

THIS WILL BE USEFUL

The hearth is in the apartment!

You are unlikely to be able to install even the simplest fireplace or stove in a high-rise building (although it is allowed to install stoves or fireplaces on the top floor of a building, you will have to go through many bureaucratic barriers to obtain this permission). But there is a way out: install an electric stove or fireplace. They are environmentally friendly, hygienic, safe, and their performance is easily adjusted using a built-in or remote control panel. In addition, they can be turned off at any moment, the intensity of the “flame” can be set according to your mood, and the degree of heating can be set according to the level of comfort. True, such electric stoves/fireplaces have two significant drawbacks: high electricity consumption and low efficiency.

HOME NOTEBOOK

How to properly light a stove

1. Check that the valve on the pipe is open and the cleaning channels are closed.

2. Check the ash pan. There should not be too much ash there (about an hour and a half after each firebox, it is necessary to rake and throw away the cooled ashes and ash, because if this is not done, corrosion will eat through metal, stone and brick).

3. Do not open windows and doors while lighting. And if the stove has not been heated for a long time, burn several crumpled newspapers at the entrance to the exhaust pipe - this will “break through” the cold air at the entrance to the chimney.

4. Use only dry firewood. It is better to burn a fireplace with deciduous wood. Conifers shoot sparks and embers. Take thinner and drier logs, and fill the firebox no more than a quarter of the volume.

5. In the firebox, lay the first row of firewood across, the rest - along, or you can lean them vertically against the far wall of the firebox. In fireplaces with an oven, firewood can only be placed horizontally. The logs should not be pressed tightly against each other, otherwise the fire may “suffocate.”

6. Carefully place birch bark or crumpled newspaper in the cracks between the firewood, set them on fire and do not forget to close the doors and open the ash pan so that there is an optimal amount of air in the firebox and good draft.

7. Firewood must burn with full fire. Place new ones only after the previous one has burned out by more than half.

8. Avoid heating the oven too much. Listen to the fire and watch it - this will help you understand it.

9. Twice a year, be sure to clean the chimney of soot, soot and resin, which can cause a fire.

10. And, of course, do not leave the burning fireplace unattended for a long time.

WHAT HOW MUCH

The price of a fireplace greatly depends on the material from which it is made. Therefore, in each specific case it is individual (on average from 30 to 700 thousand rubles).

You can order a fireplace made of stone/brick or buy a ready-made fireplace (both open and closed), or you can simply buy a fireplace lining (portal), where you can then insert a wood-burning (open or closed) or electric firebox if you wish.

What is better - a fireplace or a stove?

Owners of private houses have the opportunity to choose a heating system when installing heating in their home. You can lay out a real fireplace or stove, or you can use steam heating. Of course, modern boilers and heaters are more functional and practical, but fireplaces and stoves with their living heat make a home a real lived-in home, and, moreover, as a backup to the installed heating system in the house, this is an excellent option. Moreover, stove engineers are constantly working to improve stove technologies, stoves and fireplaces are becoming safer, less energy-intensive and giving off more heat.

The best time to plan stove heating is the moment of designing the house in which it will be installed.

Moreover, it is not necessary to build the stove itself during construction; this can be done later, taking into account the design features, leaving space for it.

Under the stoves, reinforcement of the base will be required, since the structures of the stoves are massive and take up a lot of space. Stoves are used not only for heating, but also for cooking. When installing a stove in a rebuilt house, to lay a chimney, you will have to build a channel between the floors, which is very expensive.

It is easier to build a fireplace in an already finished house, since it is lighter in design than a stove, but in some cases it may also be necessary to strengthen the foundation. Fireplace chimneys and fireboxes themselves require less space, they are simpler than stoves and are assembled faster.

Today, brick-lined, ready-made metal fireboxes and attached (insulated) chimneys are in increasing demand.

Installation of modern designs of metal fireboxes is technically simple and does not take much time, they have less weight compared to the classic version of the stove, and the efficiency reaches eighty percent.

In addition to fireplaces and stoves, there are also hybrid varieties.

Stove-fireplace - this design combines the advantages of both a stove and a fireplace. This connection made it possible to quickly heat the room due to the specific design of the fireplace, as well as the possibility of long-term heat retention due to the design of the stove. To achieve this effect, two options are used: equip the fireplace with a glass door or combine two fireboxes in one housing. Such qualities and advantages of the fireplace stove will be appreciated by the owners of houses that do not have the opportunity to visit them regularly and therefore rarely heat them. Fireplace stoves can be installed in any living space, as their technical characteristics are easy to install and operate. In addition to heating, the fireplace stove is used for cooking food. The difference between such a stove and a fireplace is in the principle of operation. A classic fireplace heats the room using the heat of a burning fire in an open firebox, and a fireplace stove heats the air with heat emanating from its walls, while the efficiency of the fireplace stove reaches seventy to eighty percent. Heating is controlled by supplying air to the firebox; there are burners for cooking, but adjusting the temperature during cooking is very difficult.

Another type of hybrid combination is a ready-to-use, complete autonomous system - a cast-iron or steel stove with a chimney, lined with ceramic tiles. In principle, this is a potbelly stove, made technically competently and with a modified design.

The global crisis has forced us to take a fresh look at life. Energy-saving lamps, energy-efficient refrigerators, washing machines, ventilation with reuse of warm air - all aimed at saving resources and money. And among such economical appliances, at first glance, there is hardly a place for fireplaces and stoves. But this is a deep misconception, because any system will justify its purpose and application depending on technical and economic conditions. The autonomy of the house directly depends on the stove. Cooking, heating the house, heating water are simple actions, but you cannot do without a stove. And as long as there is gas and electricity, all this autonomy at home seems naive and ridiculous. And yet, many people think about it, dig wells in case of problems with the water supply, install wind power plants despite considerable costs, which can only be recouped after many years.

So are autonomous stoves needed in the house?

When talking about the standard design of a fireplace, you need to take into account that it only heats the room in which it is located. Some fireplace designs provide the possibility of installing air channels that distribute heated air to other floors and rooms of the building. But the efficiency of a classic-style fireplace is small, only fifteen percent, and most of the heat goes into the chimney. And if we compare a fireplace and a stove, then the stove with its capabilities during operation takes a more advantageous position. If the fireplace heats the room while the fuel is burning in it, and requires constant monitoring of the fuel and fire, then the stove differs favorably from the fireplace in that it retains heat longer and does not require frequent fuel supply. A successful technical solution was to equip the fireplace with metal closed fireboxes and air ducts, allowing the entire house to be heated. Hot air is distributed through a special duct system throughout all rooms. By regulating the air supply to the firebox of such a fireplace, you can control the process of fuel combustion in it. Unlike standard fireplace inserts, these inserts do not draw warm air out of the room.

It should be noted that with a variety of heating systems, cheap ones are usually of poor quality. Also pay attention to the system door: if it opens horizontally, there is a high probability that it will quickly break.
