How to drain water from the water heater? On an example of the equipment of firms Ariston and Thermex

In the countryside and private houses, as well as in the country houses, in order to provide hot water supply, accumulating units are installed. In the apartment, such a device is used seasonally, in the summer, during the repair work related to water pipelines. And in those homes where there is no central system  hot water supply, water heater is used constantly. Also note that the operating time of the unit is completely dependent on the properties of the water that flows through the water pipe to the device.

In order to prolong the service of the water heater, the walls of the heater are cleaned, as well as the heating element from various deposits. This is done once or twice a year. But before the work starts, the water is drained from the water heater, that is, the container is freed of liquid. Specialists know the subtleties of this case. And so if they have never encountered this issue, then they call the professionals.

Instruction for draining the water from the water heater

In the event that they decide to independently conduct this process, then they adhere to the following algorithm:

  • the appliance is disconnected from the mains and waiting until the water cools;
  • overlap cold waterso that it does not enter the unit;
  • open the main hot water supply valve or turn the lever located on the mixer in a position that will reduce the pressure in the tank;
  • waiting for the full flow of liquid from the pipes;
  • that the air began to flow into the tank, open the valve located on the socket of hot water (supply);
  • open a drain cock that is located on a pipe, through which cold water enters the boiler, and a drainage hose is connected, then the water is drained into the sewer.
  • make sure that all the liquid has run out.

Do not in any case turn the water heater on the mains, if the tank is empty, since the appliance will not only deteriorate, but a fire may also occur.

Consider whether to drain water from the water heater during its purification and when to do it? When apart from this process, it is necessary to empty the tank? These questions apply to those people who use aggregates not constantly, that is seasonally. Look at specific examples.

If the country house is not intended for year-round living, and the room temperature is lowered to + 5 ° С, then it is necessary to drain the tank, as water can freeze, and then the capacity of the device may follow. And in the event that the rooms are warmed up better, then this operation does not produce. Also take into account the fact that the manufacturer does not recommend leaving the water heater without liquid.

In the event that a failure of the unit occurred, then the issue of the discharge of liquids is decided unequivocally. But if the device has a warranty card and a term, then call specialists who will perform all the necessary work on the spot.

Step-by-step instruction on draining water from Termex and Ariston

Consider what materials and tools are needed for this business:

  • Key (adjustable), screwdriver;
  • Hexagon, hose;
  • The keys are 24 and 32 mm (nut).

The storage capacity of the "Termex" is rectangular or round-shaped, the number of piping pipes depends on it. The flat structure has two welded pipes, they have built-in sockets of water supply and intake, and heaters are attached to the flange. In the round model of Termix, when the cold water is closed and the remnants of hot water are poured out, the boiler remains empty.

If it is necessary to drain the water from the water heater, then proceed as follows:

  • block the water supply and open the hot tap on the mixer;
  • wait until the fluid drains, this usually takes minutes, after which they close the tap;
  • with the help of a wrench, unscrew the nuts located below the return valve. At the same time, water does not flow from the heater, since it is not allowed to move hot water through a cold pipe;
  • twist the return valve, and, picking up the drain hose, quickly put it on the socket (water can flow);
  • unscrew the nut located on the pipe with hot water, and the system begins to receive air, and the liquid flows into the corrugation. If the water does not drain from the water heater, then the hose is blown;
  • if the "Termex" is flat, then it will have one more process with a plug. Then, at the same time as the water supply stops, the plug is unscrewed, the corrugation engages and the nut located on the hot water supply pipe is unscrewed. The liquid will slowly pour out.

If Ariston's operation is stopped, then water is poured from it, for which a plug placed at the top of the mixer is unscrewed. Then follow all instructions:

  • block both mixers and stop feeding water;
  • twist the nozzle (shower) and the valve located at the outlet;
  • the hose that supplies the liquid is disconnected and redirected to a separate container. In the presence of a check valve, which is located at the entrance, it is blocked;
  • liquid begins to flow out of the nozzle;
  • plastic nuts placed on the incoming and outgoing pipes are unscrewed;
  • the cap on the mixer is removed, the screw is unscrewed, the handles and gaskets are removed;
  • from the tank disconnect the body, but not to the end;
  • using a hexagon, unscrew the plug located at the top of the mixer;
  • drain the liquid from the hole where the plug was located.

In this case, the housing is positioned vertically and the mixer is opened. The whole process takes up to 20 minutes.

A safety valve or a drain valve for the water heater, protects the boiler against the pressure difference that occurs during the heating of the water. Since at a temperature of + 80 ° C its volume is more than the original by 3%, so if the heater is 50 liter, then excess water will be about 1.5 liters. And in order to reset it you need a valve.

Its design consists of a return and a subversion valve. For example, when the boiler is full cold water, while the cranes are closed, the pressure is leveled. Turn on the heaters that heat and dilute the liquid. At that time, check valve  does not allow the excess water to squeeze out towards the cold liquid and connect the safety valve, which is presented in the form of a spring-plug. It at 7 kg pressure is compressed and the load inside the water heater increases, and therefore it drips from the boiler. Also, water seeps in and out high pressure, so you need to install a reducer.

If water does not drip from the valve, then the heating temperature is low, the mixer is faulty and hot water is leaking, but the valve may be damaged. With incompetence in this case, they call specialists.

The storage water heater is a vessel that is under pressure, so drain the water by simply opening the tap with hot water and closing the cold supply, it will not work. Pour out only a portion of the water above the hot water pipe. To free the heater from the liquid, it is necessary that air enters the tank.

General rules for draining the water of electric storage heaters Thermex, Ariston, Electrolux, Polaris, Haier, Garanterm, Oasis, Timberk, Gorenje, Aquaverso, Real Madrid, Deluxe, Atlantic, Etalon are as follows:

  1. Disconnect from power supply.
  2. Allow the water to cool in the boiler.
  3. Close the valve  cold water supply.
  4. Maximally open the nearest hot water tap to the heater.
  5. Release the water through the outlet.

Drain features for individual producers

To find out the complete information on the selection, operation and maintenance of boilers (water heaters) of all manufacturers, you can, if you go.

In addition to specific information on the site, you can also study specific problems for other people on this topic who have already bought a boiler (storage water heater) and thus avoid them. A regularly updated list of such problems and their solution you will find.

Consider how quickly to drain water from water heaters of some brands, taking into account the manufacturer's recommendations and the features of their device.

For Termex 100, 80, 50, 30 liters, Real Madrid, Deluxe Suite, Aquaverso

after completing the above items 1 to 4, disconnect the safety valve or open the drain valve on the tee. The valve is unscrewed uncomplicated, for this you need to remove the nut that connects the pipe to the valve, using a adjustable wrench to unscrew the valve from the nozzle several turns.

On the loose fitting fit a rubber or plastic tube, the second end of which is lowered into the sewer. Among the line of Termex, there are models that have a drainage pipe, in this case, remove the plug from it and connect a tube or rubber hose to it, along which the liquid will drain.

Heaters Ariston ABS BLU ECO 50-80-100 liters, Polaris have a drain cock on the tee that is located between the safety device and the union. For draining, you should open the faucet by first attaching a drainage pipe to it, which is drained into the sewer system.

On boilers Burning, Oasis, Atlantic, Etalon, Hayer

Of course, no, for this it is enough to unscrew the heater and through the mounting cavity all the liquid will flow out.

When should I empty the water?

If you want to know what storage water heaters should not be chosen, about the details and nuances of their installation and connection, as well as the hidden information on the proper maintenance of all manufacturers and models, then go here.

But, we also have this problem, and not only that you will not find anywhere else, because it is asked by specific people who have not been able to get more support and advice anywhere (which they themselves tell us). And secondly, their problems are so complex that sometimes our expert Alexander Kholodov deals with people for 10 days or more.

And now EVERY question of the user and the answer to it, in order to avoid monetary costs as a result of improper operation or repair of the boiler. And it does not matter what apparatus of the manufacturer of the manufacturer is involved in the matter. The only important thing is that unique situation, as a result of which this issue arose, because as one good saying goes: "if warned, then armed."

Many of you in the country or in a country house is installed. And since you do not live here all year round, you need to discharge the liquid from.

Repeat this procedure is necessary if the room temperature is lowered by 5 or more degrees. In this case, it is worth to do this procedure especially carefully, since there is always a danger that a liquid will freeze in the tank and in the pipes and an explosion may take place.

If the temperature is above 5 degrees, it is not recommended to use the water heater for cleaning.  Manufacturers of such devices say that it is better not to drain the water and not leave the device empty.

If you do not listen to advice, then in the pipes and in the boiler there will be processes that have a bad influence on the materials used in the manufacture of the heating tank.

How to do it yourself?

Before draining the water with your own hands, disconnect the heating device from the socket.

  1. After the water heater is turned off, wait for the water in the tank to be hot, and become slightly warm. This will prevent you from getting burned while draining the water.
  2. Close the tap, which pumps cold water into the water heater.
  3. Open the hot water tap  and turn the lever to a special position, which will relieve the pressure in the heating container. Wait until the water runs out of the tube.
  4. Close the tap, which takes place on the pipe, from where hot water is supplied. This is done to ensure that the air enters the tank.
  5. Open the drain cock, taking place on a pipe of cold water leading to the water heater. Afterwards, you should connect the drainage hose and drain the liquid into the sewer.
  6. Make sure that all the water has left the tank. Do not forget that the water heater is not allowed to be inserted into the outlet empty, that is, without a minimum amount of water. This may cause a malfunction or fire.

To drain water from the boiler, you will need a wrench and a hose used for draining. The key must be selected independently, according to the nuts that restrain all the valves on the nozzles.

Arrangement of valves for drainage:

After preparing all the tools, get down to work:

  1. Open the hot water  on the tap and let it completely drain out.  How much time you have to spend depends on how much hot water is left in your boiler.
  2. After that, it is necessary to tighten the tap tightly.
  3. Look for the nut securing the safety valve.  It is located on the nozzle of hot water. You can unscrew it only if you use a adjustable wrench.
  4. Prepare a hose designed to drain water.  You should put one end of it in the container into which you are going to drain the water. The other end should be kept ready.
  5. Unscrew the valve and take out a branch pipe of cold liquid.  After, you should refuel the hose. The main thing here is to act quickly, because the pipes will pour out the remnants of water from the boiler.
  6. The same is worth repeating with a nozzle of cold water.  However, before you start draining, you should make sure that the hot water has cooled down sufficiently.
  7. Before starting the boiler, make sure that the tank is completely full.

If your water heater is located in the bathroom, you will not have to use the hose and pull the pipes to the sewerage. You should only think in advance about the length of the tubes used.

Take into account the fact that water heaters are different. They can also be connected in different ways. It is worth using the instructions that came with your unit.

How do I clean?

Before you start cleaning the boiler, you must turn it off from the outlet and allow the water to cool down. If the water heater has been connected correctly, then problems with cleaning should not arise.

You are lucky if the boiler is installed above the bathroom, since it does not have to be removed.

In this case, cleaning can be done directly on site:

  1. It is worthwhile to close all the taps that supply water.
  2. To drain the water, you must screw the shower hose.  This will prevent water splashing and help guide it into the drain hole of the bathtub .. However, it is not necessary to do this.
  3. Unscrew the fastening screw  with a screwdriver and protective plastic cover.
  4. Remove the protective cover.
  5. Pull out the wires  after unscrewing the screws.
  6. Let's see that all the liquid is drained from the tank.
  7. Gradually unscrew the nuts  with the use of a wrench.
  8. Carefully pull out the heating element  (). It can have a lot of rust, sand and debris.
  9. We remove all garbage.  As for scale, it can be removed with Coca-Cola.
  10. We wash the heating tank  from dirt.

Drainage from boilers of popular manufacturers

Remove liquid from, Termex, Atlantic and Combustion can be in three ways:

  1. Method 1.  To remove liquid use a pipe or tee. Water is blocked according to the instructions, and in order to allow the water to completely flow out, it is necessary to open the faucet, which is arranged between the diverting valve and the branch pipe.
  2. Method 2. Draining of water by means of the lever - the trigger. It takes place on the safety valve. In order to drain the liquid from the boiler, the lever must be bent. Sometimes a long hose is connected to the edge of the valve, by means of which it is possible to divert water to the sewage system through a toilet bowl, a sink or a bath.
  3. Method 3.  It is used only if the heater has a check valve installed to reduce the pressure in the boiler. It must be untwisted very carefully, since if there is a lot of water in your boiler, the pressure will be strong enough, and after that it will weaken.

If the liquid does not drain into the water heater when the valve is open, you will need to reconsider the wiring. Air can enter the tank if there is an open wiring. Use a hose in order to simplify the process of draining the water.

After reading the instructions attached to your heater, it is worthwhile to consult the advice of professionals who are well versed in the boiler arrangement.

At the stage of installation you need to be especially careful.  After the valve is cut-off type and in front of an American, install a drain cock. Thanks to this tap, you can make a normal drain of water from the water heater. It's very simple - this faucet will allow you to make a sink without making any special effort.

Experienced plumbers advise:

  1. Start work is with de-energizing, since you work with an electrical appliance, you must follow safety precautions.
  2. In order not to get burned, the liquid must be cooled to room temperature before draining.
  3. If you do not plan to use the heating device for a long time, then inside the tank may form ice, which when heated will rupture the water heater.
  4. To ensure that water inside the boiler is not covered with mold, it is necessary to pass cold water every two months through the device - so you can clean it.
  5. In order to warm the water, the device is connected to the network.
  6. Do not connect an empty water heater to the mains.

If you take into account all the comments and recommendations, you will be able to drain the water from the boiler yourself and clean it of any type of contamination. You should know that if you do not rush and do everything according to the instructions, you will not need to call a specialist home and pay him money.

Take care that you have all the necessary tools, and then, start work.

Clean according to the type of boiler installed in your home or apartment.  Despite the fact that all of them are similar, expensive models have a slightly different connection system and make draining of water from such devices much easier. Do not forget also about security measures and all you will succeed.

In the country or country houses, which are not used for living in the cold period of the year, it is necessary to take care of preparation of all engineering systems in advance for the winter. This applies to devices for heating water. Experts know how to drain water from a water heater quickly and accurately. For those who are faced with this task for the first time, it will be interesting to learn about the principle of performing actions and about possible difficulties.

The problem of conservation of the water supply system is relevant in the event that the room can reduce the temperature to +5 ° C or lower.

A negative temperature will freeze the liquid in the pipes and the tank, which can lead to ruptures and damage to the water heater and strapping.

The water heater can only work at plus temperatures. If the house is not heated in winter, the water from the heating unit should be drained off

Some manufacturers do not recommend leaving the device permanently without water for a long time, since contact with oxygen causes corrosion much faster. But in case of storing the device at minus temperatures, all the water from the system must be drained.

Even if the boiler is used all year round, it should still be cleaned periodically. Do this once or twice a year - depending on the quality of the water. In addition to the accumulation of dirt and bacteria during the operation (and even legionella, which causes inflammation of the lungs can settle), a scale is formed that covers the tan and inner walls of the container.

Scum, settling on TEN-e, works as a thermal insulator. The longer the water heater is not cleaned, the thicker the insulating layer is covered. Because of this, the device eventually heats itself more than it processes water. If the heating element is polluted, the energy consumption is increased by 25-50%.

When the system is preserved, the water must be drained carefully, until the last drop

A number of manufacturers in the documentation for the heating unit indicate that for the purpose of prevention, the discharge of a small amount of water through the drain pipe must be carried out at least once a month. This is done to remove limescale sediment and control the flawless operation of the valve (crane).

Signs, according to which it is determined that it is time to immediately purge:

  • The pressure of the water became weaker;
  • The water began to warm longer;
  • The instrument began to emit an unusual noise;
  • From the safety valve water drips very often or does not drip at all;
  • It's time for routine preventive cleaning.

The need to release the boiler from the contents can also occur if it fails, when replacing the TEN-a or magnesium anode. In all these cases, the water is drained from the unit in a similar way.

If the water in the tank is simply stagnant and exudes an unpleasant smell, it is enough to open the tap and for some time drain the water to replace it fresh. After that, turn on the maximum heat. The procedure should be repeated, if necessary, for the third time, etc. This will kill the entire pathogenic microflora.

If stagnant water in the heating device produces a musty smell, do not pour out of the water. It is enough to pass several times through it hot water

Procedure for releasing the water heater from water

Although draining the water from the electric water heater is considered an ordinary procedure, designed to extend the life of the appliance, it is better to carefully study the instructions. Each brand or model can have significant differences, so it is better to study all the nuances in advance.

Before you empty the water yourself, read the technical documentation and the manufacturer's recommendations for draining the water from the appliance

Sometimes the manufacturer completely does not allow interference in the operation of the device of anyone who is not a representative of the service department, until the end of the warranty period of service. Complex heating devices should not be disassembled on their own for complete drainage of water, so as not to put out of action by incorrect actions.

The electric heater must be disconnected from the mains supply before draining the water to prevent the risk of electric shock

If you need to disassemble the piping of the boiler, you can not do without a set of tools. From the tools you may need:

  • hexagon by 4 mm;
  • adjustable wrench (you can take the gas number 2);
  • rubber hose of suitable diameter;
  • straight and cross screwdriver.

Also prepare a container if the boiler does not hang over the bath and the water from the heater can spill onto the floor.

Before you start working, you need to make sure that:

  • The water heater is disconnected from the power supply.
  • The cold water tap is blocked.
  • The temperature in the tank was reduced to safe values.

To accelerate the cooling, you can turn off the heating mode and let down some hot water to dilute it cold.

Water heater device accounting

On the Internet there are videos in which "craftsmen", attaching a hose and unscrewing the drain valve, are waiting for the water to flow miraculously out of closed system. In order for your actions to be of an informed nature, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the device of the water heater and the principle of its operation.

Before draining the water from the water heater, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the scheme for connecting it to the water supply system

Water heater arrangement:

  1. Internal tank.
  2. Thermal insulation.
  3. Exterior decorative case.
  4. Control sensor.
  5. Electrical cable.
  6. Temperature sensor.
  7. Output of heated water.
  8. Magnesium anode. Protects against the formation of rust, neutralizes the effect of corrosion. Requires replacement every two years.
  9. Heating element - heating element. It is made mainly of nichrome spiral wrapped in a copper casing, which promotes rapid heating of water.
  10. Flow-absorber. Prevents the mixing of layers of cold and warm water (holds cold water down). Thus, cold streams, not mixing with hot, remain below, and hot - at the top. This allows you to continuously use warm water while simultaneously removing water from the system.
  11. Temperature regulator. It helps to set the heating temperature to 75 ° C and fix it at a comfortable value. At a temperature of 85-95 ° C, an automatic shutdown occurs.
  12. Tube for water intake from the water supply system.

Since the pipe for supplying water to the water heater is located below, water can only be drained through it. Why so, you can understand by looking at the diagram. On water heaters of any manufacturer, mark the entrance and exit. On the water supply pipe is a blue gasket, on the output - red.

For competent drainage of water, it is necessary to thoroughly study the circuit of the device (click to enlarge)

Standard connection (with tee)

Scheme of standard connection:

  1. Water heater.
  2. Water tap in boiler.
  3. Safety valve. It is installed to prevent the reverse flow of water in the absence of it in the system.
  4. Tee with a tap for draining.
  5. Mixer tap for hot water supply.
  6. Cold water tap.
  7. Mixer.
  8. Shut-off valve. Overlaps the drainage of hot water from the appliance.

If the water heating unit is connected correctly, then it takes no more than 10 minutes to drain the water from its container.

Step by step the discharge of water from the water heater can be described as follows:

  1. The appliance is switched off from the outlet, and the water supply to the water heater is blocked (2).
  2. Open the hot water valve (5) and drain the liquid from the tube through the mixer (7). The tap (5) is left open - air will flow through the system through it.
  3. Wear a drain hose, open the drain valve (4) and drain the water.
  4. Once the water is gone, close the shut-off valve (8).

The procedure may take several hours. It can be accelerated only by removing the hose from the cold water intake pipe - thereby increasing the amount of the jet.

The reason for a long drain can be a poor air flow into the system through the mixer. The situation can be rectified either by removing the hose from the hot water outlet pipe, or by connecting a pump (compressor) to the hose with which to pump air into the system.

To start the water heater, close the valve on the hot water pipe (5) and drain valve (4), open the cold water (2) access to the appliance. The boiler can only be connected to the outlet after full filling.

The system can be improved - the drain pipe is connected to the sewage system. The process of draining will pass completely without effort and without a single spilled drop.

Example of connecting a drain pipe of a water heater to the sewer: it remains only to turn the cranes

Improved type of standard connection

It is very convenient when the tee is placed on both sides - at the inlet of the cold and the outlet of the heated water. With this strapping, the work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Turn off the tap at the water inlet to the device.
  2. Put the drain hose on.
  3. Open the mixer to relieve the pressure inside the tank and drain the remaining water in the hose.

Guide the drain hose into the sewer or the prepared container and turn to the open position the air supply valve on the tee.

For most wall and floor water heaters, the algorithm for draining water is analogous

Simplified way of boiler connection

Simplified, this method can only be called from the point of view of the employee who implements it. For the very user of the device it will create a lot of inconvenience. The procedure for draining the water is as follows:

  1. Stop the water supply to the appliance.
  2. Open the mixer and drain the hoses of warm water.
  3. Open on safety valve  check the box and drain the water.

The difficulty is that the water will be drained for a very long time, since in order to drain it, it is necessary that air enters the container. From the mixer, it will go badly. Or not at all. The problem is solved by removing the nozzle of hot water. Twist it gently, so as not to damage the thread.

This strapping is mainly used by the service departments organized at specialized stores

So that when the next descent of water the process was much easier, use the fact that the piping of the boiler is dismantled and assemble it correctly.

With any connection, some deviations from the standard scheme are possible. Firstly, the shut-off valve, which is installed in order to block the flow of warm water into the mixer may be absent. In this case, as long as the water from the boiler is drained, it must be ensured that none of the family members use the water supply, otherwise the water will flow into the boiler through the mixer, filling it.

Secondly, the real problem may be the absence of a flag that opens the drain on the safety valve.

If you have installed such a valve on your boiler, then it is better to replace it after draining the water, so that the next time this procedure is easier

In order not to remove the valve from the water heater, it is necessary to hold the spring (see the figure) for as long as the water flows.

The spring can be held by pressing it with a screwdriver or a thin metal tube

What to do if you need to drain the water urgently

If there is no time to wait until the water from the water heater is gradually merged or the discharge valve does not work, there is a way to do it much faster.

The actions are performed in the following sequence:

  1. They block the cold water. If there is no water tap in the boiler, then the water supply at the entrance to the apartment is blocked.
  2. Open the valve at the outlet of warm water from the heater, while the internal pressure is compared with the outside. Then the faucet is closed.
  3. If the water heater does not hang over the bathroom, substitute a bucket or a deep basin.
  4. Disconnect the hot water hose.
  5. Unscrew the tee with a relief valve (we will repeat, this should be done only if the relief valve does not work or if it is necessary to drain the water very quickly).

It remains only to manage to change the capacity in time. To stop the flow of water during the replacement of the tanks, block the flow of air into the heater.

Removing water from an electric boiler

The construction of the boiler is such that no matter how hard you try to drain the water carefully, there will still be some liquid, and with it the sediment will remain inside. How to merge from the water heater all the water without residue, we will consider further:

  1. Drain the bulk of the water by one of the methods described above.
  2. Unscrew the decorative cover, which is located at the bottom of the tank.
  3. While holding the lid, disconnect the signal lamp wiring.
  4. Disconnect electric wires. To properly attach them back, you can take a picture of their original location.
  5. Further, slowly, counter-clockwise, unscrew the flange, which serves as a support for the ten, first simply loosening the nuts, and letting the residual water neatly drain out of the tank, and then unscrewing completely.
  6. Take the teng slowly, trying not to damage it and the tank.

Note that the heating element can build up a scale that will prevent it from escaping from the container. Therefore, if resistance is felt during the removal of the TEN-a, take it out carefully, moving left and right.

The amount of sediment in the boiler directly depends on the quality of the water - is this not a reason to think about the filter

If you had to drain the water from the boiler, then at the same time have it and clean it. After removing the flange and withdrawing the ten, there will be no doubt about it.

How to disassemble and rinse the water heater

If there is a lot of sediment in the tank, some of it can be removed manually. Before this, remove the rubber gasket, which serves as an insulator between the flange and the tank of the water heater. It should also be cleaned.

The inner walls and the bottom are washed with a hose with water. You can connect cold water to the hot outlet. Inside the water heater, the tube for collecting heated water reaches the very top. Water entering the tube, slightly sprayed and washes the inside walls of the container. Run the water in several stages and clean the bottom of the garbage.

If after washing in the container there is an unpleasant smell, you can treat it with a solution of vinegar. On a long stick a sponge soaked in vinegar is fixed and the internal surfaces are wiped.

Cleaning TEN-a occurs first manually. Using a screwdriver or a knife, remove the upper loose coating layer. All that is not removed - will be removed after soaking the heating element in citric acid.

To do this, in a plastic bottle, make a hole slightly larger in diameter than the size of the ten. Pour hot water into it and fall asleep citric acid  (you can use vinegar). Leave for a day, from time to time stirring the solution or replacing it with a new one.

At the end of the specified period, the tan is removed and the softened scum is easily removed. You can do this with a wooden or plastic spatula.

Carefully inspect the heater and magnesium anode, if there is even the slightest suspicion that they are damaged - it is better to replace them

Collect the boiler in the reverse order and start the water. Before switching the device into an electrical system, it is checked for leaks.

Video about the discharge of water for different types of connection

Video # 1: Once again about draining the water with a standard electrical water heater connection:

Video # 2: What to do if there is no checkbox on the relief valve:

Video # 3: The operational way of draining water from the water heater:

Like any device that has contact with water, an electric water heater requires special care. Corrosion, oxidation of threaded joints, scale and idle time can lead to the fact that the device will serve much less than the period declared by the manufacturer. Therefore, competent operation and timely preventive maintenance are so important.

Efficiency storage water heater  depends on the state of the container and the heating elements. Therefore, they need to be cleaned, at least every two years. And before cleaning, the heater must be freed from the liquid. Therefore, below the test, we will tell you how to drain the water from the water heater. Perhaps, this information is useful to you today or in the very near future.

Usually this operation is done before cleaning or repair. After all, the heater filled with water will be 50-150 kilograms heavier than the emptied device. Consequently, the dismantling of the empty heater will take place with less labor. In addition, repairs are carried out only in a dry tank. Therefore, before dismantling the heating elements (tubular electric heaters) and temperature or pressure sensors, the water must be drained.

And, of course, the water is drained before cleaning the TEN and the internal tank. After all, this operation is carried out with the help of chemical cleaners introduced into the tank. And the concentration of the active substance in the cleaner should meet certain standards. And the presence of water in the tank, these norms violate, reducing the concentration of the active substance.

In addition, it is also necessary to drain the water from the water heater if you do not already use this device. That is, you have already included "hot" water and the need for autonomous source  has disappeared until the next seasonal "prevention". Or if you move from the cottage to the city and do not want to pay bills for heating and heating water.

And, in the first and second cases, you need a conventional conservation of the electrical appliance.  After all, the water in the tank can "get out" or, worse still, turn into ice by breaking the heater. Therefore, the "mothballed" heater must be emptied without fail.

How to drain water from the storage water heater?

The algorithm of this operation is not distinguished by some other extreme complexity. But all manipulations with the boiler should be done in a sequence recommended by the manufacturer, which produces water heaters with a drain of water.

However, in most cases, these recommendations are reduced to the following algorithm:

  • At the very beginning, the heater is de-energized by disconnecting the appropriate RCDs or fuses in the "packer". And this is a compulsory recommendation.
  • After power failure, the heater stops generating heat and the water gradually cools. And you can drain only relatively warm water - boiling water can burn no worse than an open flame. Therefore, after turning off the electricity boiler should be left alone for several hours. In this regard, the following recommendation arises: turn off the current in the evening, and drain the water in the storage heater - we plan in the morning, when it will cool down to a safe temperature.
  • In the morning, it is necessary to block cold water, using for these purposes a special valve, mounted in the feeding (cold) line of the boiler. This step will stop the filling of the boiler with a new portion of cold water in the process of devastation.
  • Then it is necessary to open the "hot" valve of any mixer and simply wait for the emptying of the boiler capacity, disconnected from the inflow of a new portion of water. And the "hot" valve remains open until the completion of the process of emptying the boiler.
  • The next step is the connection of the hose to the boiler drain pipe and the outlet of the free end into the sewage system. If the boiler does not have a drainage pipe, during the connection on the "cold" line inserted into the heater, it is necessary to install a tee over the shut-off valve, in the lateral branch of which another one with a drain pipe or a conventional tap is mounted. At the final stage, this faucet opens, draining the remains of water, squeezed out by air, which comes from an open mixer in the kitchen or in the bathroom.

That, in fact, that's all. As you can see: the algorithm is really simple. But if you did not take care of installing a drain valve or a valve (on a cold water supply pipe), during the process of dismantling the boiler from the supporting surface (wall) several liters of water will flow to the floor.

Drain water from the water heater "under warranty"

Repair work of the appliance "for warranty" is performed by the service center of the manufacturer or the seller.

And, in most cases, "under warranty" repair only physically undamaged devices.

Therefore, it is better to refuse the discharge of water from a broken boiler in order to avoid explanations with the manager who takes the problem product for service or repair. This problem should be handled by a service center called at home.

But before his visit, nevertheless, it is necessary to disconnect the boiler from the network and close the valve on the supply (cold) pipeline. This will protect you from a possible electric shock. After all, if the heater or the boiler body "broke", then the water circulating through the connected device to the network turns into a good current conductor, which can "sting" the careless user from any point of consumption (tap, mixer, shower, etc.).
