Installing a mixer on the sink with your own hands

Today we will talk about installing a do-it-yourself faucet in the bathroom. Sooner or later, in every apartment the question of replacing it arises, since nothing is eternal. Now we will consider the installation on the sink, and in the following articles we will tell you how to install the mixer with shower on the bath. In order not to miss the release of the following articles on repair from the Alfa-Pro company, subscribe to the newsletter on the left side of the page.

Before starting the installation, you must turn off the taps to stop the water supply. If you do not have shut-off valves installed in your apartment, that is, ball valves or valves, then in this case you will need to contact your REU and order a water shutdown.

So, we figured it out, the water is shut off. Before dismantling the old mixer, release the residual pressure in the pipes from it by opening the handle. Some of the remaining water will come out along with the pressure. After that, you can safely remove it.

Now we start assembling a new one, since it was originally supplied unassembled.

For a better understanding of the assembly sequence, the figure below shows the markings of the parts.

For assembly and installation, we need a # 10 wrench, a Phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench.

I would like to immediately note one important point. The set comes with short flexible hoses (flexible hose) with a length of approximately 30 cm.If you have a distance from the installation site of the mixer to the thread on the cold and hot pipe more than the length of the hoses, and usually this is the case, then you will need to purchase an additional flexible connection fitting-nut of the required length. You can screw in those hoses that come with the kit, and then build them up with additional ones, then you get an unnecessary extra connection, which can also leak in the future.

The water is shut off, we have sorted out the flexible hoses, we are starting the assembly. Use a Phillips screwdriver to screw in two studs (detail D1) so that the short thread goes into the base of the mixer. Then screw in the flexible hose (A1) by hand.

In our case, we are considering installing a mixer with your own hands with a lever bottom valve. If you have it without a lever, then you can skip the following paragraphs and go directly to the installation. For those who have purchased a lever-operated foot valve faucet, I recommend reading the full article.

The linkage consists of three levers: B1, B2 and B3.

Lever B3 is inserted into the mixer. This lever must be inserted before installing the faucet on the sink, otherwise you will not be able to install it later, since the distance from the wall to the back of the faucet will not allow you to do this. It should look like this:

How to install a faucet in the bathroom

Installing a bathroom mixer on a sink:

After installing the lever, we begin to install the mixer, after putting on the rubber ring (D2) and removing the nuts (D5) from the studs. Then, on the back of the sink, put a rubber gasket (D3), a steel plate (D3) on the studs and tighten the nuts (D5) with a wrench.

After that, it is necessary to screw the B2 lever to the B3 lever. Then we assemble the B1 lever according to the diagram below:

Now we need to connect the B1 and B2 lever to each other in such a way that when the B3 lever is pressed down, the bottom valve is open. Conversely, with lever B3 pulled up, the bottom valve must be closed.

It remains only to wind flexible hoses on the water supply pipes. To do this, we first wind them by hand and then tighten them with an adjustable wrench. Do not overtighten the nuts with all your strength, as the rubber gasket inside it will break and a leak will appear after starting the water.
